It lasts 10 turns. It does work and I've glided down into the Underdark myself.
I suppose the question is; did you wait too long before jumping? Or were you outside the radius when the spell was cast? Or did you accidentally right click and cancel the spell?
It's important to be in Turn Based Mode when you attempt this. The clock runs very fast in Real Time mode and your spell can expire while team members are floating on their way down. Making their trip down much faster than anticipated.
Wrong hole.
I think what probably happened is what Ironwu said, I wasn't in turn-based mode, and jumped (literally) immediately after casting, but I guess it must have already worn off within a second? That's the only thing I can think of happening.
(And yes, I had it activated for my entire party. And no, it was definitely not the 'wrong hole,' I still got the cut-scene for falling into the underdark, its just that despite casting featherfall on everyone, I got the one for freefalling instead and died. Our corpses were in the Underdark afterwards, pffft. Then I got the prompt to load my game because everyone was dead.)
That's what she said!
LOL, yes. The one I saw in clips with featherfall activated, you just float gently down, but mine was like, flailing..screaming...freefalling. And then I was dead! It was actually kind of funny. I imagine this also happens if you just accidentally get knocked into the chasm too, which would probably be a funnier way to see it.
The developer made a great clip about that
