which parts of my hardware tank the performance in act3
so i can play the game fine until act3 but once i reach baldurs gate the game goes down into the single digit fps. at least in the second to last patch though i doubt the last one would give me an extra 25+fps to reach 30.

my pc has:
i5 8400 CPU
GTX1660ti
8GB DDR4

would it be enough to upgrade my RAM to 16GB to make act3 playable? or am i stuck using gforce now if i dont wanna spend a ton of money on a gpu or cpu?

Your processor is the bottleneck but you need more RAM in general these days.

16GB is kind of the minimum for anything new being released, regardless of what they say in the specs.

Depends on settings. I use a 1660SUPER and an i5 11400f with 16GB RAM and get about ~45 FPS in the city. It fluctuates a bit but it's never below 30.

This might help if you haven't optimized yet.

From my experience on a very low end machine, this game is significantly more CPU than GPU heavy.
8 gigs of ram also seems very low for this day n age. I'd upgrade that for sure, 2 sticks of 8 each DDR4 shouldn't be too expensive.

BG3 is using 20gb of ram in act 3 for me, you definitely want more... that plus patch 5 should give you a big boost in performance imo.

Actually I had 4gb of other programs open so it is 16gb indeed.... but steam itself was using 1gb...

your best, cheapest and easiest solution is ram. Windows even uses all 16 GB of memory if it is on hand and only lends it out on request. You probability have windows swapping out memory to the hard drive like a mad hatter.

definitely upgrading my ram next month. i can still play modern games but i can only play things like re4r on a single monitor with every program closed lol

i checked the cpu that you have but apparently it doesnt fit into my board or its at least nowhere mentioned. and i dont feel like spending 300+€ for an i7. same thing for my gpu since i might as well just buy the game on xbox or get gforce now again because of typical student money problems

What is your budget? I recently saw a laptop for 950 EUD which is 70% better than what you have there. Even 50% better than my PC, and my PC did cost more than a grand back then...

CPU... 1660 should give about 30 fps with fast CPU.
