Why can't I play as Tabaxi or Harengon? are their mods for them? I'm so disappointed
I was thinking about downloading to play only to find I can't play either of my favorite races, I can't even play as a dragonborn which is a really common one? I definitely not gonna buy it if I can't play as *any* of the species I like. Why so many boring human like races but not one single animal.

You can be Dragonbronie.

while D&D has a number of races fleshed out, the world where BG exists lacks many of them -- those races didn't even exist when BG1 came out, and while anything can and usually does happen in D&D worlds via magic or deity foolishness or whatnot, there is a lore gap to just plop them in cold -- there presence would have to be explained, and maybe that was more than the game could address....

Tabaxi and Harengon would require rigging legs that work differently than they all the avaliable races, which would require hours of QCing all animations and textures to ensure even the smallest additions still held up.
Adjusting for small standard races would've been costly enough from a business perspective.

Oh ok thats good at least, for some reason google said there wasn't. I guess i'll play as that if I decide to get the game. But I was super excited to recreate my bunny rogue character. Are there any plans for dlc for more races at some point or anything like that?

I guess thats a fair reason, but with how many people like animal races I really wouldn't have minded some offhand " they recently came from a continent really far away " just as an excuse. Maybe it'd be a bit awkward for the lore but it would make playing the game more fun.

Aw that makes sense, I guess thats why it's taking so long for someone to make mods for them to.

Larian isn't known to do DLC and there's no announcements about adding any more races. I doubt they will.

There is a mod that adds in a bunch of races though. I'll link to it in a moment.

There's a few others but this seems to be the go to one for most people.

it doesn't have any animal races but I appreciate the effort. If I play The game I'll just do teifling or dragonborn I think. I'm still a bit bummed but i'll probably still give it a chance
The reason behind this was simple, the base phb races were the only promised races. They did deviate a little and added dark gnome but thays probably cuz it's in the base game.
