Not to mention, not freeing her is irrelevant; she shows up on the beach regardless, just in slightly different spot.
Even then, with the rune its still a check to open the pod, if you roll a nat1 you fail.
As for OP's issue, there is a 5% chance they failed the Wisdom check. Chances are they're complaining about failing one of the class-specific rolls, and simply didn't realize the rune exists.
Errr you know you can still recruit her right after the ship crash right?
Also rolls in honor mode is not the problem, the problem is whenever the game crash mid-save and corrupt your save files forever
The thing is, it kinda doesn't matter which roll you were talking about. The whole point of Honor mode is that if the rolls don't go your way, you accept the consequences and deal with it.
Fail to save Shadowheart? Guess she'll be annoyed at you when you find her later. Fail on all the rolls to rescue Gale? You don't get him. It's probably not going to be a "perfect" run; the point is trying to succeed despite the failures along the way.
If that were true, then they would use seeds for die rolls.
Honor mode (aside from the changes to stats and abilities) is single save.
That's it. If your party tpk's, then the save file is converted to a Custom game with no way to go back.
That's it.
Up until that point, you can.save scum as much as you want to.
