Do you swap out companions?
For their companion quests or any other reason?

I do not, per playthrough I pick 3 and run with them. Partially because swapping is a hassle I can't be bothered with, partially because I want to be able to experience some unique dialogues/moments per playthrough with those characters. If that makes sense.

I'm curious about everyone else.

For companion quests and when playing a game without respec.

Yes, all the time. For personal quests, approval and inspiration points, funny dialogue interactions (ones that I already know), and sometimes for no particular reason :)

Seems like I have a good combination in my party. Tank, Healer, Magic User. and social/lockpicker/ magic. I don't see any reason to change. Lazael, Gale, Shadowheart and me a Bard.

Not switching companions seems like torture in my brain.

with patch 5 we can now give items to party members that are in the camp. But they can't give things back to us. We should be able to exchange party members without having to go to the camp.

I'm still in act 1 of my first play-through, but I've been swapping them out to do their specific quest lines. Most of the time I'm using the same group, but as far as i know certain quests won't trigger/can't be completed without bringing the right companion, and i need the exp from those quests and encounters.

I don’t unless something comes up in game where it would be foolish not to…like not taking Lae’zel ti the crèche.

Generally I pick a set of companions whose story I want to experience and stick with them

I never have a thief along with my party but keep one levelled up and geared up back at the camp for those few times I need a good one.

With BG3 and also Dragon Age: Inquisition i always brought the companions that i liked. In BG3 i would rather take a hireling instead of a companion that i dont like. I dont like Astarion so i'll only take him with until i've unlocked Withers and the ability to get the hirelings. Once thats done Astarion just stands around camp. I did recently bring Astarion to Moonrise Towers, just so i could get the permanent +2 STR potion.

I never swapped them. It even annoys me that there is content i miss in the city because i don't want to put Jaheira or Astarion in my party. It doesn't feel right as there where standing in my camp the whole game.

I almost always run with Lae’zel, Shadowheart and Astarion regardless of what I am playing. Those are my favorite three companion so thst is who I take. Wyll and Gale are meh and Karlach annoys the hell out of me so I never take any of them.

I generally only bring my favorite companions tbh.

With the new Minthara change, my main party is now always Me, Minthara , Shadowheart and Astarion and I do swap them here and there for companion quests but only for them. As soon as I max out a companion approval I shelf them until the end

I'm with OP here, I pick 3 and power ahead, its too jarring and silly for me personally to go back to camp, suddenly give Wyll 7 levels, and trot him out like a show-pony, then put him back in the stable.

That said, I have in the past with many CRPGs, switched companions out and done exactly the thing I do not do here.

Ultimately, play how you want to play, enjoy the things you enjoy (as long as you're not causing others harm). This is an interesting topic however to see others opinions and reasoning.

Same here. I find it very difficult to part from this regardless of who I choose as a main character.
