It's just a pre-order for that perticular ediiton. Has been out since August 3rd otherwise.
Really a shame....looks like my holidays playthrough will be postponed a little while longer
Huh. That is surprising.
Maybe it could have been organized better during planning though? Then again....it's only a minor inconvenience.
I was pretty sure, based on the preview photos, that the keys would pressed on disc or in another way delivered as hardcopy with the box. So that they send them out in advance comes as a surprise.
I suppose they want to prevent people from ordering, get the code, play the game and cancel the order.
Yeah. It is not allowed anymore to keep the money like with a pledge. At least in the EU the laws are quite strict about that.
I've experienced kickstarter games using backerkit or humblebundle to help distribute keys when you've purchased something, they send you a code, or access to said code, via e-mail; hope they could set something up like that.
Another idea could be you make an agreement with someone who would buy a copy on steam and gift it to you, and you in turn promise to give them the key coming with your physical order in Q1 2024, but that's definitely not ideal (and messy).
He wants to play as soon as possible with his friends and while the hype is big. Totally understandable, I was a kid once too. So now I'm forced to buy the game twice, the second time at an even more expensive price, if I want to give him the collector's edition but let him play Christmas day?
That's low. No way I believe they didn't know what they were doing. All these shady websites selling the game keys and I can't get a game key from the company itself when I buy the more expensive version?
Shame on them. They know what they're doing.
My advice? Get the digital version and enjoy the game over christmas (it's what I chose and I'm very much looking forward to playing next week). It's even on sale right now for the Steam sale.
You're also saving months to wait, some extra cash that can go on something else, and possible delivery hiccups/customs problems when it is ready.
It's understandable to prefer physical to digital copies but in this case, the PC version on disk in the physical edition is actually a downloader + key, in effect little different to the digital copy anyway (a potential problem if you wanted it on console, but if steam's an option, go for it).
The bad timing is regrettable, but let's be honest, there's no 'forced' to buy it twice happening here lol If anything, it's way more likely Larian just didn't get the logistics sorted out in time for this deluxe edition to be distributed en masse for the holidays - which may hurt sales, but only slightly as the game has been so popular (is it not even the most sought after on steam at the moment?). It's they who miss out if customers can't buy the collector's edition during what is effectively the biggest purchasing time of the year.
Relax. Merry Christmas!
