Honor mode and save scumming.
I keep reading that they've removed the ability to save scum for Honor mode, but I'm curious exactly how...

If you save before a dialogue roll or weapon swing can't you still reload if it misses; or does Honor mode snapshot your rolls so the result will always be the same? Also, can't you just save before a fight starts and reload the second it starts going south, as long as you don't wait until you're literally dead?

I know Honor mode still allows manual saving, so practically speaking save scumming should still be a thing; just a bit more inconvenient.

Just curious, since I can't seem to find a detailed answer on how this works.

you cannot load a save at all in Honour mode, and if you quit the game it just auto saves right away

You can still somewhat save scum.

It’s just like tactician- the game auto saves on the exact same spots and doesn’t auto save during combat or after rolls.

It autosaves when you exit the game and you only have one save that overrides itself however you can still go around it by starting combat and when it doesn’t go your way reboot the system and load form the save before the fight .

Ah, that's pretty simple and effective.

Thanks.

I did figure you could probably crash the game and get around it, or just desynch your saves from the steam cloud after each session so you'll still have access to an old save.

I mean except when you simply set the read only flag in windows on that save, and the game can't overwrite or delete the save anymore...^^

I mean while your at it why not just use the cheat engine to give yourself the achievement for beating the game in honour mode, if you are going to try and scum it anyways why only do it half way?

next thing you know, the game creates a registry key that tells it if a save is no longer valid
Also circumventable, but only for slightly more tech savy people, like that game where you have a virtual pet that dies if you quit the game, and stays dead even if you reinstall the game, and you need to get rid of the registry key to make it forget

If they don’t people to cheat it they should have made the gala auto save after every dice roll and at least at the end of every turn in combat.

It really shouldn’t be that difficult to do it like this , I’m guessing it has to do with the fact the game likes to pause for few seconds during autosaves and will annoy people to have a force pause every turn

CP2077 made that way easier...it had simple console commands to give you all achievements you wanted....^^

And now we enter the next pointless armsrace that's ultimately meaningless...in the end you just spoof a packet to steam to give you the achievement, and next you'll see someone will write a special program that does that for every game...^^
I mean sure, there are people who use these things for educational purposes, but can we just skip the stupid armsrace and accept, that achievements tell nobody nothing, however doing the achievement yourself, can still give you yourself a sense of fullfillment...for having done it....because in the end that's the only thing they are good for. Not for getting recognition from others, but for you yourself recognizing you have done something.

I mean yea, ofc, i was just memeing what the next step would be ^^
Anything clientside, the user can do whatever they want with, if they have the tools and/or know-how.
Could also just make a CE table that sends you straight to the credits.

Don't really plan to do anything to cheat the system, but if Honor Mode allowed manual saves I definitely would've used them, lol.

Well, I'm playing the game on PS5 and will ultimately be doing this run there, so if I get the trophy there it will have slightly more meaning. ;)

Before Honor mode there was no save scumming, now there will be a save scumming.
Look up on Google how to do it.
First of all, there is no save scumming, you are playing your own game in Single Player mode.
You should be able to play it the way you want it without anyone dictating you how you should play it.
If anyone wishes to play Iron man mode, go ahead, use only one save and there you go, you are playing Iron man mode.

Well, while I was answering your post I was addressing a more general audience :P

Fair enough ^^
I'll beat it without out-of-game cheese (maybe some ingame cheese though :3) because thats just what I enjoy

This is like the original rogue. Back then, on unix, if you exited rogue it would make a hidden save file. If you restarted, it would load the game and then delete that hidden save file. So everything was "permadeath".

But if you knew the name of the hidden save file (hint: ls -a), then you could make a copy of it with a different name. No more "permadeath".

On PC, anyway, the same strategy probably works. If you want to have no honor.
