Grymforge Boss Fight No Control: character in story event glitch. Can't use character. Any help appreciated

With the addition of honor mode to the game I decided to go through another playthrough on said difficulty. Aside from dying once to the owlbear's new legendary move and having to start over things were going pretty well. That is until I got to Adamantine Forge boss fight.

I got to the adamantine forge and tried to fight Grym. I kept Astarion away from the fight as a way to prevent any whole party deaths and I didn't particularly position my team well or equip them with the right bludgeoning weapons to win so they were defeated.

I then went back to withers with Astarion and resurrected the whole party and went back to the adamantine forge. However, this is when problems began to arise.

The forge was stuck at the bottom with no lava and I couldn't interact with the lava lever meaning Grym is immune to all damage. I sent down only my own character to see what could be done and during a fight shot the mould lever releasing the adamantine splint mold ( I also picked up the armor) and the mould was ejected.

I died again since it was only my one character messing around. My next attempt I go down and press the mould insert thing in the fight with grym and next thing I know all my character can't do anything and his turns are skipped with Grym beating him to death while he couldn't do anything.

I resurrected Tav and he comes back saying I have no control: character stuck in a story event. I've tried killing and resurrecting Tav, talking to origin characters with other character with allows Tav to speak to them, quitting the game etc and no fix. I did the same thing with Laezel and then she couldn't do anything was promptly murdered by Grym and stuck in the same position.

Does anyone know a fix to this bug? I can't reload a save since I'm on honor mode and I really don't want to restart again or wait a long time for Larian to fix this bug. Any help would be appreciated.

character stuck in a story event = you will never recover from this. Normally it would take loading a save before it happens but as you only have the one. I have tried everything short of leaving the NPC behind and moving on with the story. My understanding this is a game bug

I actually managed to fix it. I had the unstuck companions go travel from the Grymforge to the Underdark and it pulled them out of being stuck in a story event.

Grymforge is always bug-prone. Probably risky to mess with it in "honor mode", but it's hard to walk away from potentially three nice pieces of armor.

Can you please describe, what actualy did you do? I have the same bug and have 2 Avatars stuck. I have unfinished quest, so if I complete it with npc, will it unstuck other characters?

Hey man, having the same problem and dont wanna lose my honour save either. I'm having trouble understanding how you solved it by having the unstuck party members travel from the grymforge to the underdark. I revived my Tav at withers and have tried fast travelling from the grym forge to the underdark, tried using the boats and tried shoving him as well. A followup would be awesome, thanks!

You're the best. I got a bug in my honor multiplayer game and I was able to get out thanks to what you wrote.

Basically, you get one shot at Grymforge. If you go back to camp, the lava valve becomes inoperable.

It's not clear whether this is a bug or intentional, but that's the way it is.
