[Spoilers] Epilogue: Question about Valeria's letter
I played the epilogue yesterday and was confused about one detail mentioned in Valeria's letter. It mentions that she got Devella promoted "posthumously", implying that she died by the time the epilogue plays. But during my BG3 playthrough I did not notice this happening (other than the possibility of her dying in the attack on Baldur's Gate) - does anyone know what happened?

For context, my playthrough went a pretty standard "good playthrough way". I started the investigation in Father Lorgan's murder, Valeria referred me to Devella and I told Devella of the Bhaal plot as far as I had uncovered it up to that point. That first encounter at the Elfsong was also the last time I remember seeing her. Afterwards, I solved the murders and freed Valeria in the murder tribunal.

I know this is a very minor detail about a minor NPC, but I am just very curious as to what happened to Devella and if there was a way to deduce that before the epilogue; or if there was even a way to save her.

You have to do the Skip Cutscene Attack button (Bottom left with the cross swords) to initiate combat then:
You have to prevent the enemies from killing Devella, a bit annoying because she's paralyzed and would be hit with advantage so that's crits each hit, so I suggest taking Gale, Magic Missile, Fireball, then if you're a melee fighter/paladin/barbarian, jump in between any enemies and Devella, if you're a healer, take any melee companion to be your insurance that if anyone hits Devella, your melee companion would be retaliating while you're healing. (This is how I kept Devella alive)

Pretty sure you can cast Sanctuary on her, it helps a lot

As the others suggest, if you didn't actively save Devella, she probably died in that fight. I have found in the past that if I rush someone to where she is parilyzed, the enemies will target my party member as the active threat. But if I don't draw their attention, they will target her and kill her quickly with auto-crits.

I just pushed them away and put magical darkness on top of her xD Left a character in the way so they would have to take it down first or get smacked trying to get to Devella. Sentinel works wonder too!

This or Misty step then shove her away, or use Dim Door

Yeah, there are many ways :) I still think Sanctuary is the simplest, but it's an easy spell to forget about, since it's usefulness is pretty situational.

I never go out without it honestly, adaptable to so many occasions.

Oh sheesh!! You're right, there was someone paralysed next to the tailor who ended up dying 😭 Mystery solved, thank you and everyone else who replied! ❤️ I managed to save the tailor in my playthrough, but did not pay attention to the others, I didn't notice it was Devella on the ground... RIP Devella. I'll try and save her the next time.
