How important is Darkvision in this?
Is it a big deal if your Tav doesn't have it?

There are items and spells to get it.

If you use ranged combat darkvision is essential, if you do not rely on spells and items to get it.
Otherwise you get disadvantage on each attack roll in the dark.

Melee is affected too, but usually your light sources reach far enough to cover melee.

I played a charater without, but used spells and utility to compensate.
It is doable, and fun. But difficulty is increased by that, obviously.

Not a huge deal. Theres plenty of torches, light spells, etc. It will only mainly have an effect in the underdark where you'll have a harder time hitting things without light or darkvision

If your tav doesn't have it I've noticed it's significantly darker in certain areas so a light source is needed

I found it useful but I wouldn't say it's "important"...
Literally (and I do mean LITERALLY) useless. Not a single instance where Darkvision came into play. Not a single one. It's 100% useless.

nice to have, not required because of all the options you have to deal with darkness

Hu?
Any time you shoot a bow at an enemy that is in darkness you get a disadvantage.
How is that not making darkvision come into play by removing that disadvantage?

ranged is less useful than you might think due to short range of many racial and other ways to see in dark.
Simply casting the light spell on your melee character's weapon negates a lot of problems. If you don't want to do that, you can also cast it on trash items like bottles and throw them near the enemy as needed. Enemy don't generally avoid light spell auras. There is a free dancing lights item (cast all you want, no limit) in act 1 right after just a few min of play.

Its honestly never been a bid deal in my game, maybe there is an advantage in some case but I haven't come up with one so far.

i don't care
I don't even remember in which PC D&D games it was something important at all
Maybe Solasta: Crown of the Magister there, the designers made an impact of light, sun and darkness

Not nearly as important as it is in Solasta, particularly the original campaign.
