Is it worth keeping Chromatic Orb?
Feeling like I might want to swap it out on my Sorcerer. It does a lot of damage for a level 1 and 2 spell, but up-casting beyond that seems like a waste. At level 6, it's only an 8d8. And using my level 1 slots for the Shield spell seems more useful.

Twin Cast Cold/Lightning against wet targets.

I kept it around on my sorc run, but honestly haven't been casting it a lot.
It's probably reasonable to swap out, in terms of first level spells I'd prolly only keep shield and magic missile.

i think its a good mid tier spell thanks to its versatility. id keep it if you want to always have a work around for several resistances

Yeah, I'm definitely keep those. Chromatic Orb still looks good for a level 2 spell, but Shatter and Scorching Ray still seem better. Thinking of swapping it for Enhance Ability, because advantage on any dialogue just seems so useful for the non-combat side of the game.

I have it on still for wet conditions but I like call lightning better especially with free casts.

my thing is though, while the damage value is or can be quite different, the elemental effects are the same. so if someone is weak against a certain element like thunder or fire is is worth using 2 higher level spell slots to get the environmental effect? not trying to convince one way or another tbc.

I'm going Elemental Adept Lightning as my first feat, so that already takes care of the resistance problem in 99% of cases. Besides Djinni and a couple of unique bosses, nothing else is immune to lightning. So once I cut resistance with the feat, I just use my big lightning attacks for most encounters.

I never use it. Not saying it's a bad spell, just that it's not necessary. So my advice would be take whatever seems fun and cool.

People complain about the lack of difficulty in the combat of the game, but what that means is that you are not locked in to always having the optimum loadout. You can have fun just playing around with whatever seems interesting.

on my 1st playthrough still (dont let play time fool you i share a PC AND steam account with the wife for BG3) and i am just now getting to the point where every fight isnt insanely dangerous lol. but thats MY fault. i made a soc not realizing most of my party early on would be casters and i fully missed getting whatshername the Gith woman lol so combat required a degree of creativity for me for awhile
