Sorcerer
Monk would sound nice in theory, but I just can't see how the character got into a monastic order with their past. It just doesn't fit.
Same with a monk, marital prowess intact, previous bloodlust, etc. absent/suppresed.
A troubled past struggling to control untamed instincts of savagery and terrible killer impulses sounds like PRECISELY the kind of reason why someone with a good conscience would try to hone their self control and determination through meditation, training, dicipline, self-iprovement and spiritual cultivation while seeking guidance of someone wiser and in isolation from society in general somewhere secluded and controlled, like a monastery, to avoid mass chaos, as there are less defenseless people to victimize and more self-cultivated people who can subdue him if the urges become irresistible.
A monk actually fits like a glove under such light, someone with such a charged past but is ultimately a good soul who wishes to see these urges purged or at least put in check.
Not that Sorcerer is a bad choice, but i can definitly see Monk as a perfect fit.
Not the answer you're looking for, but you can always just respec Minthara into something else. I did a lot of that to my own party. I didn't want two Druids, so I respecced Jahera into a Ranger, which meant I specced Minsc as a Barbarian (makes sense with his personality), which made Kharlak into a Fighter (seems the most appropriate to me) and Leizel a Paladin of Vengeance. Without Minthara, I didn't have a Paladin already.
Yes, they all get good wisdom scores but I also think through roleplay it can be a lot of fun. A repentant dark urge turning to the gods and being granted power (especially if it's a neutral god) can be a lot of fun. Druids can genuinely be good or evil because nature giveth and taketh away and doesn't care one way or the other, and overcoming one's nature through discipline as a monk is always going to be a fun roleplay decision.
