Newest Update is Maxing Out CPU
I have an I7-8700k, literally the recommended processor. Prior to this patch, the game ran fine. Now however, I started a new playthrough on the most recent update, and my processor is at 100%. upon closing the game, is down to 47% with my browser up. So is the recommended now the minimum? Looking for some insight into what's changed that affected the performance so drastically.

My i9 maxes out even in character create, this is only solved by forcing the processor output down from 100% in Windows energy plan.

Are you in Baldur's Gate on the save you're playing? That whole area was and probably still is pretty CPU heavy, especially with things like dynamic crowds.

If it's just in character creation or even the main menu, yikes. Dunno mate.

I know my processor has beef with the character create too, but the is the first time in actual gameplay thats maxed out. Wasn't sure if others are experiencing it, or if its just me. I've run a reinstall but the problem persists. I'll have to try that energy plan solution and see what that does.

Playing on a 4th Gen i5 4670K here.
100% CPU utilization does not mean as much as people think. Do keep an eye on temperatures though. If its really going bad, there's something elese going on.
47% with browser up also sounds too much but, are we talking about Integrated graphics?

47% with Browser open? there is something wrong with your system i have like 3-5% at most with a browser open and some youtube video running most of the time even less

Edit: just tested on char creation i have like 30 % Cpu Usage and on the Nautilod its like 30 - 40% running Ryzen High Performance Power Plan

Nope, my graphics card is a 2080. The temps are running higher, in game around 90 degrees, and outside 70. I clean my pc about once a month, so I don't think dust is the issue. Probably gonna end up having to reapply thermal past, havent done that since I built the PC 5-6 years ago. Hopefully that sorts things out. I know the CPU shouldn't be running so hot, so thats the prime suspect.

I'm thinking my thermal paste might need replacing. It's been 5-6 years since I applied it when I built the PC, and they're running way too hot to be normal. Thermal throttling might be the issue here.

That would explain a lot. 5-6 years is not the worst ive ran a machine without paste replacement, but it is indeed way too much by norm
