2-handed Weapon Assassin Build?
2-Handed Weapon Assassin Build

In theory crafting various Multi-class combinations, I discovered an intriguing Assassin build.

Is there anything I'm missing in the build description below, something that doesn't work the way I think it does? The potential first-round damage seems insane. On average, 150+ damage, which is then doubled if they're surprised due to Assassin auto-crits against surprised opponents.

At max level, the build is Hunter 3 (Gloomstalker), Rogue 3 (Assassin), Fighter 6 (Battle Master).

Fighting Style: Great Weapon Fighting (When you roll a 1 or 2 on a damage die for an attack with a two-handed melee weapon, that die is rerolled once.)

Feat: Great Weapon Master (Great Weapon Master: Bonus Attack
Melee Attack Bonus: -5
Melee Damage Bonus +10)

Feat: Savage Attacker (When making weapon attacks, you roll your damage dice twice and use the highest result.)

I'll pick the Everburn Blade because you can acquire that in the beginning as a 2-hander.
When I initiate the combat, on an enemy that hasn't attacked yet, I have advantage, if surprised, auto-crit.

1st Attack with advantage - 2d6 +1d4 weapon, +2d6 sneak attack, +1d8 battle maneuver, +10 GWM.

Extra Attack (from Fighter 5) w/advantage - 2d6 +1d4 weapon, +2d6 sneak attack, +1d8 battle maneuver, +10 GWM.

Gloomstalker Extra Attack (Ranger 3 sublcass) w/advantage - 2d6 +1d4 weapon, +2d6 sneak attack, +1d8 battle maneuver, +1d8 gloomstalker damage, +10 GWM.

Action Surge -> Attack w/advantage - 2d6 +1d4 weapon, +2d6 sneak attack, +1d8 battle maneuver, +10 GWM.

Extra Attack from Great Weapon Master w/advantage 2d6 +1d4 weapon, +2d6 sneak attack, +10 GWM.

This assumes you don't roll snake eyes on the attack roll. And the 5 attack from GWM assumes you did one crit or killed a creature and could reach a 2nd target.

THE TOTAL
The average damage, assuming all 5 attacks is ~180, 150 if the GWM attack doesn't proc.

The minimum assuming no 1's or 2's for damage rolls was ~140, 115 w/o GWM

The maximum non-crit was ~230, 192 w/o GWM

The maximum with critical, assuming a surprised enemy guarantees ALL are crits, mathematically tops out at ~460 total, with an average damage roll criticals being ~370.

You need a finesse weapon to be able to use it for backstab. Phalar Aluve is about the only finesse 2handed weapon.

There's the Dancing Breeze glaive, which is a proper two-handed weapon.

It turns out there are exactly 3 2-handed finesse weapons.

You would only get your sneak attack damage once per turn, I believe?

This build is not particularly well thought out tbh

No ASI increases mean your stats are abysmal.

There are no finesse greatswords/2d6 weapons that I am aware of.

Action surge grants you a whole action to use, which a single action can contain multiple attacks. This build would have two attacks per action, whereas you only list one action surge attack. If you went fighter 11, action surge would give you 3 attacks.

Fighters get a 3rd attack at level 11. Your character would be immensely stronger just going 12 battlemaster fighter to get a total of 4 ASI/Feat choices and using strength. Battlemaster fighter is incredibly strong. Strength is very good in BG3 due to the verticality of the game, combine with the jump action.

Yes, this won't work how the OP expects it to.
