Did I miss an entire region?

I finished the game today. In the lower city region, north of the Steel Watch Foundry, there was an area (I think it was labelled "Baldur's Gate" that, whenever I tried to go there, the party would experience the earthquakes and headaches and were unable to proceed.
I assumed there would be a point in the game when I would be able to proceed there. I didn't complete all the side quests, so maybe one of those allows passage to that area?. I do plan to play the game again, so, without spoiling it, is there another "region" up there and I just need to complete some quest to get there? When I play again, I definitely want to explore it if I completely missed out on an entire region....

Haven't missed anything. It's just inaccessible and part of the very last quest, i.e. venturing towards the Netherbrain.

Yah, there's totally like not any cut content in BG3 or anything...certainly not.

That's the upper city. You visit it by going past the "point-of-no-return" and facing the final boss.

Ok. I did that, though I didn't get to it through that gate. So, just to be clear, the upper city is not an area where you can freely explore, etc.?
I got there by going through the sewers, past the temple of Bhaal and then on a boat and climbing up the brain stem. .

You have to play Never Winter Nights 2 too see the 'upper city' :)

You eventually go there towards the end but its all messed up and enemies all over the place . you never get to go there when its normal (and probabky a much bigger map) . There is a point when you can at least look thru the gate. but towards the end a solid wall slides down in front of it

There is also a bridge near the steel watch foundry that is always UP. I beleive that goes to a different part of the upper city thats blocked off.


Edit that bridge goes west amd upper balders gate is to the north. So i dont know what that area was for\

Ok. I remember fighting past all of the enemies and climbing the broken steps while the nautiloid bombards, etc. I guess I just didn’t realize that was the upper city region I couldn’t get to before…
