What level to proceed to Act 2
What level does your characters need to proceed to Act 2, mine are level 5 but when I try to go through the mountain pass I get wiped out!

If you do everything in Act 1 you should be around level 7 before you hit the Shadow Cursed lands. Though the first part of the Mountain Pass is considered Act 1.

You mean the gith encounter is too hard?

Well, I'm sure you can beat them at lv 5 quite easily, if you are having issues just don't talk to them and sneak attack them from the top of the structure so you can have some free attacks.

Also don't forget your buffs and specially haste your nelee frontliner and it should be quite trivial.

Level 6 seems to be an ideal level to enter Act 2.

Mountain Pass is actually Act 1, but entering it does have some effects on other Act 1 quests.

I usually do everything else in Act 1 (including the Underdark) before going into the Mountain Pass area. But it's not necessary -- even though it does make things easier.

The undead fight near the entrance to the Mountain Pass partially serves as a gatekeeper role. The Mountain Pass, Act 2, and the first fight in Act 3 are pretty hard if you rush through Act 1 without leveling.

Did you do all the Underdark stuff? Also, unless you're going for the tactician achievement there is no problem with dropping the difficulty down to explorer just to get through that one fight.

Thanks for the replies , no I haven’t done the Underdark yet only as far as the gate with the statue that blasts you as you go through, got to work that out yet.
Thought that was Act 2.

Act 2 is *after* both Mountain Pass and Underdark (do Underdark first). You should be at least Lvl 6 and maybe even Lvl 7 before going into Act 2.

Be sure to explore everything, everywhere if you want to be well geared and leveled up for going into Act 2. :)

Good Luck
Have Fun

By the way, you will get a warning before proceeding to Act 2. Do NOT ignore that warning. Certain quests will auto-complete when you move to Act 2. You will still be able to travel back to Act 1 areas, but will no longer be able to do those quests. Or get other ones from there.

Ok, there are a couple of other ways to get into the Underdark too, and a way to disable the guards that kill you. Do a bit of exploring near Waukeen's Rest, the caves to the east to find a quest there. You can also go out the side room by that gate too, but there's a killer surprise (pun intended) for you but a good fight with a good reward.

As low as possible - you want to make it to BG at level 9 so the game doesn't feel pointless after there - the only fight you need to worry about is that Undead fight in the pass.

You could, unchain Shadowheart, invis sneak her pass the combat, enter Act 2, speed potion her through the Toll House, find the way point and just teleport into act 2.

I have yet to try this but next playthrough this will be how I skip the 40% of the game that is pointless.

Are the Death Shepherds too hard? They are resistant to 'everything' as far as I know, which means half damage ; all damage. There's 2 of them and they revive dead enemies too.

If this is the fight you are having doubts on then see it as a test for what's to come Act 2. Strategic planning is required as the game goes on. I was level 6 my first time getting through this group. If you continue to the right of them you'll find more / easier enemies to fight to get more exp and level up more.

Completing quests helps a lot with leveling; all thought you get exp for fighting and defeating enemies it's lackluster compared to quest exp. Make sure you're completing as many quests as you can before continuing on.

Thanks again for all the replies, I’ll venture forward!
