And don't forget to turn Cloud Saves OFF for BG3.
There is a 'secret' Larian Studios folder in AppData. Here is the path:
C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Local\Larian Studios
After BG3 is uninstalled, this folder should be manually deleted.
If you want to copy out your save files, they are here:
C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\PlayerProfiles\Public\Savegames\Story
You would copy them out, then after the BG3 is installed, copy them back to the Story folder.
But, as I said, if they have been modified by a Mod, they may never work again and you would have to start over. :(
1 - Always make sure the mods have been updated to be compatible with the latest version.
2 - If the game was recently updated, all mods you had are now incompatible unless proven otherwise.
3 - Never install abandoned and/or outdated mods.
4 - Always read the mods' latest comments to ensure nobody's having problems with the mods.
5 - Back up your saves.
6 - Always understand how the mods are installed and how they can be removed.
And many more.
Unfortunately, Larian does not currently support mods, nor do they take them into account when updating the game. There is no current roadmap to Mod support in BG3 (yet).
The only 'safe' Mods to use are ones that do not change game files nor cause saves to be modified with Mod exclusive data. Note that a Mod may not directly change a save file, but may change the code such that IT changes the save file. Same result.
Best course is not to use Mods if a stable game progression is important. :)
