She usually dies on the ship in my game.
Gith are rare and they are basing things off if what a friend said never having seen or interacted with one themselves before so they trapped and caged her based on a friend's encounter
Regarding the skill checks, for everything in the 10-15 range, reloading might be the preferable option. Though, getting one of the companions or the PC to gain proficiency in the skills is beneficial as well, especially considering that there are 21-30 DC later on.
As for Lae'zel specifically, she is relatively easy to keep in the party - only one completely unavoidable battle and no explicitly Evil actions required. Though, a hireling fighter would provide the same level of combat expertise if this is a concern. Additionally, there's a Good-aligned Barbarian tiefling companion.
Then again, if he/she really did, this thread wouldn't exist in the first place.
BTW OP, Lae'zel is ok. Can be an annoying piece of ♥♥♥♥♥ at times but she is indeed a loyal companion. Just blinded by Gith faith/indoctrination.
2. You can do a deception check to have the tieflings leave, so you can shoot lae'zel out of the cage freely
