Tadpoles - ***possible spoilers***
Can you keep tadpoles without eating them?
Or is consuming the only way to keep them?
I want to keep them and make decision later, but it looks like I have to consume them???

We had 30 on my husband's TAV at the end of the game. You don't have to eat them until you want to.

Thing is, the very first one of them is a decision. Unless you consume one, the game will pick them up and put them all in your inventory. It was at least like that for me. Once you consume one, I think it just auto-consumes them. I think they end up in a big pool so you can just decide who gets what skill or something.

Yep that's true. Once you consume one, they auto consume and that can be useful when they're out in the open. People claim theft, but you have nothing on you so they just squint at you like .... :steamfacepalm: .... but you get it anyway... so it's win! :steamhappy: BUT if you want to hold the jars you can do so.

One important disconnect here. Even if you 'consume' the jars, you could refrain from using them still. Having the counter steadilly increasing with available tadpoles. It just saves you from inventory bloat.

Most active illithid abilities is not terribly useful. But the top ones is mental bastion, freecast, flying, luck of the far realms and getting expertise on all cha skills.

Well, except for the one you start with.

Ok, Little confused, for me first one I encounter is the dying dwarf. It seems to give me only option to consume or not. I did not and it ran away, I chased it for a little bit and lost it. I do not think it gave me any option to capture/keep it other than consuming it, is this way it is supposed to be?

You managed to lose a limited tadpole, congrats.

I do not really plan to use them, was curious if there is a way to keep them and NOT consume them. This did not answer my question , why did it not give me option to keep it, only to consume or not?

Is it possible I am forgetting an earlier encounter and now I can not save tadpole or store it?
This is the dying Dwarf and his two followers/slaves in ACT 1 encounter.
I know there is also the one bugbear and the one in the Emerald Grove Lab. Is there another that may have been the original or first introduction to consuming them???

The tadpole tries to escape you, if you don't eat it you can kill it (I don't know what happens if it escapes).

After that every true soul you kill has a tadpole on their corpse that you can loot, and there are also some in the environment, I ended up with something in the mid 20's IIRC, but I have seen people claiming as many as 40. As far as I know I barely missed any, and some people are claiming you get some inventory duplication.

Either way I finished the game "tadpole free". Largest result of it (other than missing out on the tadpole powers) was one of the characters whining at you a few times.

You miss out from intentionally depriving yourself of extra power.

So I have to consume at least One to be able to collect them? Does that just put them in a collection or storage?
How did you end up with 20 if you never consumed any? That is what I am trying to figure out, how to keep them without consuming? Did you consume first and none after that?

No, you can collect them without consuming any. They are items that drop from dead true souls.

(Mechanically they're basically potions that increase your "tadpole counter" currency which you can then spend on illithid upgrade powers.)
