Killing Elminster : not rewarding enough
Ok, so I'm on a Dark Urge playthrough. I let the guy talk to my Gale, cast his spell on him, and notice I can't trade with him, cheapsake... but, I can still fight him. No speach option for it, but eh, why not, I'm the Dark Urge, and he just told my Gale to sacrifice himself for the cause .

So I click on the "fight" icon. We're in my camp, poor guy, even at lvl.20, he lasted not even 2 rounds! He won init and cast one spell, then I stun-locked him, sneak, action-surge and all and he falls !

Great! I get 1.000 XP each character for the fight ! But, no body... no loot. His body disintegrates in a pool of water. Sad. I would've hope for a little something, or at least a Steam achievement, lol.

Do you think someone like Elminster would allow some pleb to actually kill him much less take his really good stuff from his dead body?

Good it shouldn't be rewarding either, you think someone like him is going to travel around in his best gear to meet a time bomb and such, he likely sent a clone and not really himself chosen of the goddess of magic are a tricky lot

There you go :3

(Also the actual Elminster could obliterate your entire party before you get a single action in, then go and solo the campaign in an afternoon without so much as getting a spec of dust on his robes, then go home and enjoy a nice cup of tea)

Don't forget about Silver Fire.
Elminster has both.

Larian should have made attacking Elminster an automatic game over like what happens when you basically tell Vlaakith to f off.

To be fair, he is on a mission from Mystra. That mission is to get gale to galenheimer all over the elder brain. Killing him would be ever-so-slightly counter-productive.
And I don't think he particularly cares about one of probably hundreds of simulacrums or the 1500 gold it takes to make a new one.

I know but it would still be a hilarious way to end a campaign.

Elminster has enemies as a hobby.
If it wasn't a hobby, he woulndn't have enemies (anymore) :)

Well but besides Gale why would he even raise a finger to the rest, has a hobby his mission when he is on one, he would put a stop on the count down on gale the others go to attack him freezes and reverses their spells actions and so on, foes earned and he gets fun later when more powerful :P I did take that into account to work in his hobby right now they are not threats when you meet him later though....,

Edit: Grrr just showed that use to dm games, feel like a nerd

The real Elminster is a multi-class abomination who exploits stealth, barrelmancy, tavern-brawler and save-scumming. You would've gotten game-over probably without seeing the attack.

Fortunately, you got his simulacrum, not his clone.

And anyway, the real reward are the friends you meet and kill along the way.

I sense your inner murder-hobo style of play I approve.
You didn't 'kill' Elminster.
