Annoying that you have to do things in a certain order (to get the full experience) but no one (in-game) tells you what that order is.
For example, when I found the secret passage under Waukeen's Rest to go rescue the Duke, I wasn't ready to go to the underdark yet, I hadn't cleared the whole Act 1 map completely. So I left. I later find out from Wyl that Waukeen's Rest burned down and I no longer have the option to save the Duke.

If I'd known that could happen, I wouldn't even have gone to Waukeen's Rest (thus not triggering that event) until I'd cleared the rest of the map.

(speaking of which, I HATE the Steam emojis! so I'm just going to write mine out like this.)

Except the normal consequence to acting immediately is that you are lower level and more likely to fail, and the normal consequence to waiting is that the quest helpfully stays exactly the same until you're ready for it. A suspected hag abducted a local woman? Feel free to put that off for a few weeks while you level up, she'll still be in exactly the same state when you get around to it. Your help is needed at the city bank? No worries, the robbers will conveniently wait to rob the place just as you get there. Etc., etc.

Every once in a blue moon they switch it around, and waiting causes a quest to fail. The lesson there isn't "lol actions have consequences", it is "lol the devs give no ♥♥♥♥♥ about game consistency".

You can't rescue the Duke in Act 1. But if you enter Waukeens rest you need to save the Councillor inside the inn, or whatever that is. If you leave, she burns :(

So you missed out on some story bits from the Councillor but Wyll and his dads story still comes later
You don't save the Duke in Act 1. Waukeen's Rest is about saving a Councillor and another guy. If they die, you lose out on some later dialogue but nothing big.

The underdark is part of Act 1 as well.

If you do help them rescue the people inside (which is pretty easy), then you don't get sent to the Underdark or whatever. You can just go back to doing whatever you are doing.

Exactly..

Help me! Quickly My house is on fire!

Ya, there's a nice garage sale over there let me check. They have nice stuff...

Few hours later coming back.,.

Awaah... All the people from the house fire died why?

Some counters are sneaky in this game. Others are quite obvious.

Imagine that. A game that does not map out your every move in advance for you. So that you have to make a decision based on, I don't know, the ROLE you are playing?

Your complaint is pointless and just shows a lack of understanding of what the game is actually about.

See what I mean guys? Nothing helpful, just nastiness. How must is be to live in such an ugly, negative space...all.the.time.

you can go to Waukeen's Rest, but if you do you should focus on the literally burning Waukeen's Rest and not some secret hideout.

You can make your own way. No need to regret for lost some exp or mission. The way this game is made allow you to reach the cap level with much time to expend in take fun. In many games you reach max level and power just at the end. Here you can enjoy max level and power earlier. Much more time to enjoy the game anyway. I finish the game 3 times. The first run I lost all the creche side mission. A lot of content.. in any case I finish the game with max level. Don't worry about lost mission or exp. In your second run you find more content you lost before

Councillor Florick just gives you a ligjtning charge weapon which is ok, but not amazing, and then there's a knockback hammer in a side room. Other than that, not much else of interest at Walken's Rest Stop.

Welcome to Bauldurs Gate. Been like this since BG1.
The game is made for replay value. Youre not supposed to just know the answers to every question on the test. Youre supposed to study and learn via replay and exploration or else, save scumming.

All I got out of your post is that youre mad at yourself you didnt save prior and forgot then missed your que. Feels bad. Keep multiple saves and save scum if it matters that much to you?
*shrug*
Better luck next time.
