Maybe it's a spatial awareness thing? I know someone with absolutely dismal spatial awareness who gets lost in a parking lot if it wasn't for the letters for the rows and even with them they sometimes get lost. I never understood how that was possible, but some people just have an issue with that I guess.
...but as for BG3, I'm used to checking the map a lot. Several games have a map with a marker but no path laid out how to get there and even fewer with a HUD guide. Pathing long distances seems to be an issue in all Divinity Engine games, preferring to teleport NPCs once a bit further beyond rendering distance. So, I'm guessing such mapping isn't possible with the base engine. Someone might be able to mod it, but I couldn't say how much work it would be if the base game doesn't have that feature at all.
There is an option, to lock the minimap to be always facing North
This might help with orientation and following compass markers instead of directional mental path ??
but there's literally an option to Lock the minimap North
Hmm I don't know but I think if they added a feature to unselect/reselect active quests would help with this a lot, it get's crazy when you have like a million quests on your map
probably honestly lol, I like my little magic glowing trail
This is the only QoL i really wanted related to map and navigation. Makes things so much easier
I really like that it doesn’t ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ just point you towards your quest like some kind of traffic cop.
Reminds me of Morrowind in some ways.
Those “go here now!” quest markers really inhibit game development and player immersion. I’m not one for immersion either but there were plenty of really good games back in the day that didn’t set up a LED landing strip for quest competition.
Tl;Dr,
No. Quest markers are bad and should only be an option on easy mode, if at all.
The option to switch off Map and minimap should be there though, specially for Tactician mode. But then i feel like the games that do that, require rewriting NPC dialogues or quest updates, to better give directions to players where to go. Most of the times the games where you can switch off maps, require you to have already played and know where to go
Admittedly the quest log itself is very messy.
