Crashing on startup with mac
Is anyone else having the issue where you get through the launcher, the loading screen gets to 100%, and then the game crashes? I've looked everywhere online and can't find a solution, it's happening no matter what I try. Help massively appreciated

Edit: running on a 2020 Macbook Pro M1 processor

Yes, no error message, just the pop up saying the game crashed and to report what happened before the crash. And it's the loading screen right after the Larian icon animation thing at the very beginning of the game launch.

What was the report as to the cause?

All I can see is the really long crash report that Mac does with the long list of code, I'm sure it's in there but I'm not very code-savy so I don't know- if you mean a different report there isn't one, the Larian popup just asked Me to say what happened (which is in my first post)

Sorry, but I have no suggestions for this problem. :(

I do wish you luck finding someone that might have experienced it and found a fix.

Good Luck

M1 Chip 2020 Macbook pro, no mods, verified and re-installed the game, restarted my computer, restarted steam, no open apps/ tabs other than Steam. I've literally never played before, I have almost an hours worth of play time on Steam now just from getting stuck in trying to launch the game.

Without much information on the fault, the only thing I could suggest is this:

Go to the Launcher screen.

Open up the Launcher Settings menu.
Turn OFF all three of the options under 'General'
Save the Settings changes

Close the Settings.

See if the game will now load.

Only one of them was on by default and unfortunately turning it off (and saving) didn't work. Thank you for trying again though

*Sigh* I sure wish I knew more about what the issue might be. :(

When you did the Uninstall-Reinstall, did you also delete the Larian Studios folder and contents? I don't know where they are located on Mac systems.

Data there is retained between uninstall/install cycles.

There is a file down in that hierarchy named 'ModSettings.lsx'. Try deleting that file (it is recreated when the game starts). It can cause problems if it gets out of sync with the game.

Me too bestie, I've been wanting to play for ages and this is what happens when I finally buy it haha.

I did the uninstall-reinstall last night and yes deleted the LS folder contents.

I'll try deleting the file and seeing if anything happens, this whole situation is rather frustrating

Edit: no dice :( you'd think there'd be a fix or an acknowledgement of this happening since it seems like many people are having this issue right now

When I say the "Larian Studios" folder, I am not talking about the Steam common folder for BG3. There is a discrete "Larian Studios" folder that is created by the game. That folder is usually tucked away somewhere not related to Steam at all.

I am thinking you may need to send that Crash Report to a Mac tech person, or post it on a Mac Tech Forum somewhere and see if anyone can ferret out the prime failure point of the crash.

Oh interesting okay, I'll see if I can find it/ if it helps- probably gonna look into sending the crash report so someone like you suggested, can't hurt to get more info.
