Not Enough Disk Space for update

Holy ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥ batman. I have over 75gb free on my steam deck. How much space does this update need?

75.2 GB? Thing is, with Steam updates, is that they need more room than the actual update download size. They download the compressed files and then decompress it and write it to game files so if it downloads 20GB and wants to decompress it to 60GB it's going to take 80GB of space to do it.

Figure you are going to need 150gb extra for the game and its updates. Game just does not like to run close (in its terms) to the edge of available memory. The larger the update, the more headroom it wants. :)

Only game on a 256gb card and it still won't update. Update is less then 20. This is stupid. Anyone able to update on a Steam Deck?

Should have a warning that developer will force player to reinstall for updates, if that will even work. I'll try it tonight

No, that's on the developer and how they package the game. It has nothing to do with the way steam does updates.

It's not uncommon for a game to need twice the install space when updating. It's a limitation of technology.

Obviously more that the cheapest SteamDeck cannot keep up.

This should be a requirement to be Steam deck verified.

I'm glad I have a PC with a 2TB M.2 dedicated gaming drive. And to think I was going to buy a steam deck. Glad I saved my money.

I wouldn't let one dev with insane updates dissuade you from purchasing a Steam Deck. Every other verified game I have played has been seamless.

Even unverified games have been easier to use than BG3 on the Deck.

Some times you will need twice the size of a patch for them to install.
This is because of Steams "Failsafe" systems when patching.

This where wery common a few years ago but developers have found ways to circomvent the issue in later years.

That does meen all studios know how to do this, and normally involves major changes in depo and file structures. so in general expect patch x 2 in worst case cenarios.

I did not look up the size of this latest patch, but the last large patch was shown as 20gb and drive had over 150gb free. A lot more than double.

Did a test by removing everything on a 256gb card except for BG3 and it would not update.

As someone stated above that's the size of the entry level Steam Deck, yet the game is Steam Deck verified.

No, no. It is twice the game size.
