Or, there is a easy platforming path to get past the checkpoint.
However, going from there to Wyrm's Rock and then to Baldur's Gate requires a quest item (AFAIK). You can either get a pass from the little elephant detective or from Artur. Not sure if there is any other way.

I tried avoiding the bridge all together and tried entering from the prison but it becomes un-playable as soon as I exit the Prison.
Tried this and it works for me. The delays are still there but at least I am not stuck without moving forward in the game.
I just entered Baldur’s Gate today. All I did was have Astarion (who is separated from the party) misty step WAAAAYYYYY past the guards at the south exit, and get to the checkpoint. Then, the rest of the party uses the checkpoint. Then when we get to the drawbridge, my character passes a charisma check about the duke being in trouble, so they let me in/they lower the drawbridge. 👍
Your post has nothing to do with threadstarter's issues, though.
They referred to something else which is obsolete by now.
Switching to Vulkan, lowering graphics and disabling "dynamic crowds" made it "playable" for me.
