Kethric is ♥♥♥♥♥♥ baller
Just saw a cutscene on youtube I didn't even know they planned for. Based on what I've heard in act 3 where things break if you attack Gortash too early but

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5dh6nqsFsT4

This absolute UNIT of a man, doesn't even see you as worthy of fighting yet. He doesn't run off with his tail tucked. He's bored, and you're not even worth the effort
Genuinely hilarious

I think Raphael saw the opportunity to make a deal with one of the Dark Justiciars to turn him into a horde of rats, thereby gaining a soul and trapping a potential rival. I think, with his schemes of gaining the crown for himself, he's now looking for allies and wants Yugir freed to serve him again.
Thanks for the insight!

Okay that makes sense, even if anyone can do those trials and it's pretty dumb of old Ketheric not to have secured Nightsong before switching Gods xD. I'm annoyed we can't properly save Nere. He's a complete idiot, but I've grown fond of him. I also thought Ketheric personally did that stuff to his family members, and wonder why he's so fixated on his daughter. The fat guy is his son too. Never figured out what relation the other two have.

Any idea why Shar guys killed the necromancer that had the Necromancy of Thay, but left the book? And why there's a note saying it teaches True Resurrection, but we do not learn that from it?

I'm sure it's probably the classic DND trope of "we're the only ones with brain cells but we only have 2 to share among 4 or more" as to why Kethric and his forces couldn't go through the trials. But yeah, would have been nice to ally further with Nere. As for the other two Thorms, I figure maybe siblings?

As for the necromancy of That, we did find it locked in a basement behind traps. Could be one of the goblins died to a trap and the other said "♥♥♥♥ this ♥♥♥♥" and left it there.
I always took it as the book being somewhat sentient, and we took the first step in translating. We were able to translate that 4× summon ghouls (noticably different from raise as you don't need corpses) but that took an incredible amount of willpower. So I feel after the storyline you'd learn
There's a corpse in the spider cave of the Necromancer's apprentice with a note saying that Justiciars killed the Necromancer, and that the apprentice hid the gem down there. Everyone else in the village was killed by said necromancer as far as I could tell, not the goblins. IDK what the goblins are looking for there. I'd imagine Ketheric could have wanted the book, and maybe it was his guys who killed the necromancer when he was still Sharan, but he has Balthazar, so idk why he'd still be looking for it now (assuming the goblins are trying to find it). Also, I suppose whoever killed the necromancer could have just left the book because it's ununsable without the gem or they couldn't get past the mirror.

If we learn true resurrection after the story, would that mean Astarion could cast it on himself?

Oh yeah! I forgot about the spider bit. Yeah, that makes a lot more sense. Kethric would probably want anything to do with true resurrection, but that does involve knowing about it actively

It could be that they just flat out didn't know about it? I dont think I've seen mentions of the book beyond act 3 and that note in act 1. And I like to imagine in my headcanon that my Necromancer and Astarion are pouring through the book trying to find a cure

I derailed your thread - apologies.

I just assumed the Sharans killed the necromancer for the book, since idk why else they would bother to go out of their way to assassinate him - but yeah maybe they didn't know and the whole point of everything is to lure the player down to the spider pit/kill themselves by jumping in the hole w/o feather fall, like I did xD.

And I prefer to head canon this too for Astarion, as being stuck a spawn sucks, especially since he doesn't even have the gaseous form thing his siblings have. I wonder why his eyes don't glow like theirs, even after the worm is gone.
