Why did no one tell me Duergar are op??
https://bg3.wiki/wiki/Dwarf#Duergar

Duergar have:
  • Proficiency with Battleaxes, handaxes, light hammers, and warhammers
  • Advantage on saving throws against poison and resistance to poison damage
  • Can see in the dark up to 24m
  • Advantage on saving throws against illusions as well as resistance to being charmed or paralysed
  • Enlarge at level 3 once per long rest (and doesn't require long rest)
  • Invisibility at level 5 once per battle (and does not use spell slots)

Most of this is extremely strong but the invisibility is the one that made me realize yesterday how extremely broken this race is. Their invisibility is not once per short or long rest like most racial abilities but once per battle. That means that when exploring you can use invisibility at will. You can use invisibility to sneak into an area, perform whatever actions, then use invisibility to sneak back out. It's insane. If Duergar had just the broken invisibility they would be one of the best races in the game. But on top of that they have all those other things too!

Am I missing something here? I feel like they're for sure the best race in the game perhaps with Githyanki as a close second.

Shortie and slower than standard sized races. But yes, their racials is quite strong and i think they are much better looking than the Gith, whom also have pretty good racials.

They certainly make pickpocketing much easier.

Halfling is the only one that beats Duergar

Ah yes duergar. I remember "shove" all of em in underdark, lmao.

Duergar also have some unique dialogue options I believe, and have the most first hand experience with the illithid situations tied with the githyanki.

Shovel is more OP. He has invis as cantrip!

"Basket" fixed that for you.

best is subjective, but they are certainly one of the top 3-4. The choice of 'best' is going to depend a lot on your class(es) ... gith don't bring much to a fighter, but the armor and weapons are pretty awesome for builds that don't get either, for example.

In the sense that invisible could be useful to anyone in a variety of situations, I suppose its a good candidate for 'best overall' since its never bad to have the option. The ability to wear medium armor on characters that normally cannot is pretty sweet too -- it really makes the str based tavern brawler monk easier to build trading str in for wis/dex out/reduced.

Why do you need someone else to tell you.

Well, I'll hold your hand and tell you that deep gnomes are pretty OP as well, though I leave it up to you to work out why.

Shovel's invisibility is once per short rest! Duergar are much stronger despite being the same size.

Yikes. You need to work on your social skills kiddo!

They're still ugly though so there's that.

Yep duergars are really good and insanely op if you take the fighter class.
Kafik Nov 11, 2023 @ 11:56pm
Probably because min/maxing is not required at all in this game even on tactician mode.

No, it's cantrip. You can cast it every turn.

The extended darkvision range also is great for ranged combatants and spellcasters, and is something you wouldn't normally think about with darkvision-enabled classes. It's easy to forget that most can only see up to 12 meters in the dark.

This "Shovel" you guys are talking about sounds a lot like the Fork that I have in my party.
