Game deleted after update
Hello everyone,
I've been playing Baldur's Gate for a few hours now and took a short break after Patch 4. But I had already completely pulled and installed the patch.

Now I wanted to continue playing today and Steam started downloading the game again. Just like that, I hadn't deleted it or anything like that. I'm only at 8% now and everything is running very slowly. The download window itself says that I'm patching it, but the patch is over 100 GB in size.

Now I quickly looked at the game folder on the disk and it shows me just 27 GB. So the game data is really no longer available.

Does anyone know what could have happened? Games don't delete themselves.

Yesterday I reloaded the game from Steam to 90%. Today I wanted to do the last 10% and start again from the beginning. Isn't there a solution for this? Before the last major patch I had no problems

That's why the good lord invented GOG. So you can play offline and update whenever you want without Silly Steam telling you that you have to update.

You can do the same on Steam with Baldur's Gate 3.

You can't as you need to use Steam and it needs to be online to install and activate your account. To disable updates in Steam you have to take the client offline. Then back online to play any other games online or update them. It's silly.

Once the GOG files are downloaded you can install it on any PC without an internet connection and it runs. No updates unless you download and install them.

If you do not know how, that is on you, not on Steam.

meh, i love steam but this isn't really true, after a while of playing steam in exclusively offline mode it can start to jig- out and say games aren't ready to be played in offline mode and then you're out of luck until you can reconnect to at least let steam talk to it's mothership. But yeah, that's supposed to work, not the same as a having a seperate offline install with no steam permission required.

It did. The patch was something like 90gb, and then when I check my baldurs gate folder, it was down to 30gb.

This isn't about whether we want the patch, it's about why my game deletes itself with every patch. I would like to have the patches, but the circumstances are annoying. This is about 100 GB

really sucks if you have a data cap like I do
