Still updating with the patch ...
Yes I am STILL trying to get my game updated with the latest patch. I had to cancel the first one and start from scratch because it was corrupted. If this one is the same I am really going to lose my cool. Patching has been going on for a week now and at 53% ... :steambored:

It's just as well I am playing EU4 at the moment and don't want to play this or I would be getting seriously fed up by now. I know I don't have it patching whilst I am playing games but well - I actually like playing games not patching them !!!

What is it with the ridiculously long patching processes these days with games? Total War Warhammer 3 is the same. Takes forever to patch that as well.

I have no idea what you mean about download resets but I am reinstalling the game now so it doesnt matter. I am just venting my rage that I have been trying to patch this game now for a week and I am back to a 3% reinstall lol.

When the game got released there were common hotfixes, one after another. Since it takes for me e.g. two whole days to download the game, each new hotfix/patch would cause the download to reset. Knowing that you can workaround it and prevent the reset from happening.
You may be misunderstanding how the modding system works... The patches to the base game are not made with any consideration to keeping the mods stable and functional. So in practice, it's extremely common to have a new patch "break" the mods.

Because modders are generally hardworking, generous people who mod as a hobby in addition to their fulltime jobs, it sometimes takes a while for them to get updated, especially depending on the complexity of the update relative to their specific mod.

Now, Larian modding doesn't work the same way as Bethesda modding; the latter is built with a modding community in mind. So updates may break mods, but Bethesda KNOWS their games will have a robust modding community and builds their games accordingly. Their file structure, folder hierarchy, coding patterns, etc are all designed with accessibility and modding in mind. Larian accepts that their games will be modded, but doesn't really care to make it any easier for the modders.

As such, it's far more common for an update to a Larian game to break mods... even retroactively. By that, I mean that it's quite possible the existence of an old mod in the game folder can break even the installation of the game or an update.

IIRC, there was a point at which the modding community of D:OS2 asked Larian to STOP updating their game, because it kept breaking all the mods, and the game was perfectly fine as it was.

tl;dr
Understand how modding works. In order to do a true reinstall (which it sounds like you need to do), delete the game files, delete the mod files, delete the files within the documents folder that references this game at all. You're welcome to try to backup your save files, but there's a 93% chance they won't work if they reference mods. Just updating the mods is not enough if you intend to do a full reinstall.

No idea if you want to use that. But it could save your nerves next time around.
Ah, and for good measures since you use mods

Its very unlikely any mod would cause the download to restart. I presume the only way they could do so is if the game tried to run itself after patching and one of the mods failed. Ive never known a game patch do that though. Most if not all download the files then verify the files have been downloaded and patched. Its obviously that part that was failing for me.

I never got to actually start the game so I have no idea if any of the mods have been broken. But it is very unlikely any broken mods would cause a patch to fail IMO. They might prevent the game from running but they wont stop a game from downloading and installing a patch.

Its most likely the patch files just got badly corrupted somehow and thus never managed to verify properly.

You say that... and yet it's happened to me... with this very game... about a month ago. I had Patch 2 (or some update) reinstall itself five times. It took about 3 min every time, not 7 days... but I uninstalled all of my mods, wiped my Documents folder... and the game reinstalled and updated just fine.

I haven't used mods again because one of my coop guys didn't want to use them, and the game was being updated often enough early on that it was easier to just avoid mods for now.
