Merchant attitude stuck? Never changes.

I've never been able to change any trader or merchant's attitude towards me, whether I sell a bunch of stuff with them or buy their wares. It's always stuck right in the middle at 0. I always interact with my Tav, and even when I try trading using a different character the attitude doesn't go up or down either. Any idea how I can fix this?

give them stuff for free.
or just give them gold for free.

I just now gave a free infernal mace to the merchant Fitz for free and am still at +0%

oop ok so I just reloaded to start the trade again from the beginning and unloaded a bunch of stuff onto the trader for free, did in fact see the score go up a little in my favor for the first time! My penny-pinching self would never have thought to just give loot away for free, so thank you!!

No problem.
Tbf not much use increasing apporval of Merchants,
besides maybe casting play dead on them and fogging them up to loot everything you gave and everything they have as bonus.

I still have the owlbear egg which I've been told can fetch a chunk of coin if you're in the merchants' favor.
