Does anything bad happen if you attack Withers enough?

I tried attacking him just to see what happens, and he just takes 0 damage and says "Ha, yes, well struck!"

I just left it at that, but now I'm wondering if something happens if you keep doing it enough times :B

If you hit him periodically you will get a decent testing ground for your weapon, abilities and spells looking in combat log.

Nope. If you attack him at a specific time and then talk to him he can explain WHY he takes no damage, but that's all.

No. There are limits to his patience (as a certain spoilery scene shows) but it's not really feasible to reach them in a mortal lifetime.

Just be ready that all companions that are not in current team will take his side and you have to ressurect them after fight (if this action is not planned specially).
