In short - you will miss like 15-20% unique dialogs and some events if you like me - never sleeping person. So - sleep whenever you want (just check this guide if you don't want to miss anything), it's "free" unlike in D&D and useful if you have casters in your team.
Btw game doesn't really care if you wanna sleep or not, you will be forced to sleep at least 2-4 times during acts, so feel free to sleep as many times as you want.
Also most if not all things are progression timed and not by long rests. For example the Druid/Goblin situation will only automatically resolve once you enter the mountain pass oder the underdark area.
Its going to the Shadow-cursed lands from Grymforge that is a nono.
Also the companions have something to say about what happend. You miss this, too
