Is it even worth Casting Haste?
I've noticed this for ages, that it rarely survives 2 rounds.

I just had a fight with the first Steel Watch. Cast Twin Shot Haste on Lae'zel and Shadowheart, and went to hide behind a wagon. Lae'zel disarmed the Steel Watcher, but he did a jump toward to main, then a grappling hook - Concentration on Haste Lost.

Just after that in potion shop, game crashed, so had to do the fight again.

This time stood even further back and hid. Some other guy that was aggro'd(not fist), was all but dead after a barrage of Missiles. He had 2 or 3 points left, but guess what - he hit and removed concentration.

As I've said, I've noticed this for ages. I've put the Robe of Surpreme Defence on him now(not as good for his attack), see if that helps - it's supposed to help saving Concentration spells.

Honestly though, the game sure hates you casting Haste. Wouldn't be so bad if I could get Haste Potion easy enough.

Not sure about that. Probably depends upon your set up. This game is playable on normal difficulty without going for optimised teams/builds, so battles can easily last longer than a couple of rounds.
Idk how optimized you would consider the builds im playing but im on tactician, i don't remember the last time a fight lasted more than 3 rounds.
As in just using any old set up, w/o multiclassing or using a tank/characters with 20 attacks per round, etc. xD Particularly in Act 3, there are multiple fights with so many enemies, I offtab while they take their rounds.

Cast sanctuary on the sorc, then they can't touch him.

My typical experience:

1) I'm deciding what spells to prepare. I put haste in there, because everybody always talks about how great it is.

2) In combat I am always casting offensive spells. I win the fight and never caste haste.

3) Later on I think to myself, "I wonder if I am *ever* going to remember to try casting haste."

4) The cycle repeats.

Yeah, but if you cast Haste on yourself, you get another turn(as long as you don't want concentration spell like Sleet Storm). So you got Haste for free.

First thing is save your potions{speed} for the later acts. You should have a ton of potions of speed
before you reach act 2. Don't waste them in act 1 and you should be fine. Plus there
are a few bows in the game that have haste. I prefer my magic user to do dmg and not
waste time on buffs......that's what potions are for. But if you do make sure you build
that mage right.

My mages have a higher AC than my Fighters (by design) and have either Resilient: Constitution or Warcaster. While the AI proritizes concentrating targets, it also prioritizes low AC targets, so my mages don't have to deal with as much fire as a low AC mage would. Even if they get hit, they'll probably make their save (95% chance at minimum). CC in the form of spells tends to be a more likely concentration breaker than enemy attacks.

My Tav Support/dps fire draconic sorc, Shadowheart Light Cleric Support/tank/dps, Kalrach tiger wildheat barb dps, Gale 6 cleric/6 sorc call lightning caster dps, would not say hyper optimized honestly.

Haste is like super integral for my dps, enter fight have my tav haste kalrach/gale, have shadowheart cast rain to cover whole area, then start blasting, most fights dont last 2 turns.

I dunno that sounds quite OP to me. I'm very nooby when it comes to fighting, so would never even think of a water / leccy nuke set up xD

Most important thing for me, is I got initiative 7/7/6/4, so often all 4 get to go before anyone else. Makes a huge difference.

Haste is amazing.

Nothing like casting x2 haste with your sorcerer, one on your fighter and one on your barbarian both at the same time and then wreck stuff.

I usually have misty step on my caster so if possible i teleport him to an advantageus spot where he can´t be reached so easily and also has high ground bonus.

On top of that he uses mage armor and those 3 illusions that soak up a few hits and by the time those are gone my melee fighters have usually already wrecked everything.

Oh and oc my whole group gets blessed by shadowheart which also helps avoiding hits.

So long story short yes haste is worth it. For me it is essential.

I only have it on Lae'zel. The Rest get most of their initiative from equipment.

Have a sorcerer twincast Haste and you will squee with joy.
Popsicles Nov 6, 2023 @ 5:39am
I use haste to win battles that are otherwise un-winnable. I try not to abuse it or this game becomes one-dimensional.

Haste is the most powerful spell/effect in BG3.

Haste isn't the problem, you have a problem holding concentration. That is another matter. Take the warcaster feat, increase your con, caste invisibility, mirror image, and other defensive buffs. Always have shield spell prepared. Equip items that boost your concentration bonus... There are many measures you can take to hold concentration effectively in this game.
Moonbane Nov 6, 2023 @ 5:42am
you mean increasing constitution.
grobdor Nov 6, 2023 @ 6:21am
There's a potion that improves concentration saves, a feat that improves concentration saves, a light armor that improves concentration saves, and you can have your caster run from combat while still concentrating. Play smarter not harder
