Necromancy of Thay vanished after dropped

hey guys im really confused, i came across the Necromancy of Thay and chose the dialogue option to drop it to destroy it. gale said a line about not treating a book that way then the narrator said about only needing to destroy it. i come out of the conversation and the book is nowhere to be found.

am i missing something?
did gale pick it up? its not in his inventory. believe it or not still on my first playthrough and have no idea if this is a bug or not.

any help is appreciated.

Open inventory and filter by "last".

Doesn't ctrl highlight the item if it's there. Otherwise Gale has eaten up the book

It's all about the RP. If you just min-max and meta every run, the game becomes stale.

I am merely advising that one shouldnt jump to destroy it on first sight. Just like people getting stabby with a certain pale one.
