Is anyone else disappointed about the poly romances?
In my very first playthrough I romanced both Halsin and Astarion, but it felt like the only thing that really indicated the fact that there was a poly romance was the initial conversation of "hey would you be comfortable with this? :)" and the brothel scene

I wasn't expecting much but I did hope that at the end, Halsin would've been involved in the conversation about where my Tav and Astarion's relationship was going to go.

Idk it's just weird to me that they included the chance to be poly, but it never really felt like an actual relationship between the three characters :(

Edited to add: I'm aware of who is poly and who isn't, this post was just to bring up how I felt as though poly relationships in the game feel as though the second partner in the relationship doesn't actually matter since the game doesn't seem to treat it like a poly relationship and treats it more like "this character is cool if Tav sleeps with other people". I feel as though Astarion's personal storyline while in a romance with him especially had some great potential poly content (like having an actual discussion with him and the third about where relationship boundaries lie)

have you tried being normal?

Normal doesn't exist.

"Normal" very much exists but I guess that's too hard for someone of your... intellect... to understand.

Everyone's normal is different. Your normal is different than the person you're responding to. How about we try not to let this discussion devolve into an argument about what's normal and what isn't and just let everyone discuss about the topic at hand- the fact that poly romances aren't really poly romances.

Also, Astarion will engage if you force him to but you'll cut off any romance path with him if you force him to engage with yourself and the twins.
How can you even force him? for me, if he isn't ready to do it yet, he'll nicely say no. You can't force him. After you do his quest and you guys still stayed together, he's actually excited to do it.

Play Astarions Origin route. When employing the Drow twins with either Shadowheart or Halsin alone, he will concentrate his efforts on them not the Drow. If you take both Halsin and Shadowheart together he will concentrate on Shadowheart. It's as if he is only really interested in his main romance partner.

If you choose to go with Nym on your own and choose to just talk with her, you can tell her you are struggling with multiple lovers.

When playing Tav/Durge, Astarion may seem excited to try multiple partners again, but he also voices the fact that he may have a problem with it (the faster then I used to run from the sun line), and then of course he ends up disassociating during the act both as a spawn and ascended.

Also compare it to his origin run, here he lavishes his attentions on everyone. He is basically performing for Tav, as they are the one that initiates the group sex, he is giving them what they want even though he clearly doesn't enjoy it himself.

Also compare how Halsin, Shadowheart and Astarion react when you choose to go with just one of the Twins without them. Halsin and Shadowheart are both okay with it and tell you they might just go and have there own fun. Yet if Tav does that to Astarion he will react badly and accuse them of having a type for Elfen prostitutes. He sees himself as a type of prostitue. On his route he can even have a little chat with the Drow Twins themselves about it, before you take their services.

While Astarion may be poly overall, he isn't quite ready for it yet. He is only just coming to terms with and moving on from his abuse and he needs more time. Also consider in the 200 years of abuse he was made to sleep around with multiple people. He now may just want to experience the love of one person.

One last thing, the look Shadowheart and Halsin give each other when you take them both to the twins. :heartred: They are both definitely down and ready for a healthy poly setup. Astarion, however, gives off a totally different nervous energy. Tav may not be FORCE, forcing him, but they are in a position to persuade him into something he might not choose for himself yet, if ever again.

Yes I know Astarion has a lot of trauma from being forced to sleep with so many people all those years. I never intended to force him into anything, I didn't even get an actual persuasion option. If he expressed he wasn't sure about it but there was an option to persuade, I wouldn't have done it. Just like I didn't force him to bite that other horny drow girl.

Before doing his quest he said he wasn't ready for that yet and you just leave it at that. I did get the comment from him about me having a type, I just thought it was funny. But yeah after doing his quest his attitude like completely changed on it so I did it, even though he ended up disassociating during it, that was sad. It's just options that are fun to explore in a game, but if I was playing completely serious and honest, I wouldn't want to do any foursomes nor have any poly relationship. I'd only want him to be with me.

But anyway the other person said it like you can actually force him and it'll ruin any romance with him, I haven't experienced that. He remains the same after it.

I don't think I'll ever play any origins though. I've also never romanced Shadowheart. Currently I'm in a poly with Halsin and Astarion. But I think with the drows I'd have to choose who I want to take, I doubt they do a fivesome lol. Or it'll pick whoever I have the highest approval with. I'm not even into Halsin tbh, I might just dump him soon.

All of the relationships are ♥♥♥♥ in this game. It is the only poorly implemented aspect of BG3.

You can have the fivesome with Tav, Halsin, Astarion and the drow. Astarion will still disassociate though. The Drow will refer to your partner as Astarion, but Halsin will butt in and say he'd like join, whether you have entered into a poly relationship with him or not. Halsin is down bad for both Tav and Astarion and won't let that opportunity pass him by.
