however, you should not use both rings on party mates in the active group, its just shifting around damage. The clever thing is to put the counterpart ring on a character with high health in the camp and shunt damage to them.

I've never used the rings because I didn't see the point (and because there are always way more than 8 rings that I would like to be using at any given time). But giving up only one ring slot to use a camp character as an HP pool -- that might be useful.
You don't even have to keep wearing the ring after the effect has been used! :)
