Devotion vs Vengeance Paladin.
Trying to decide between the 2, but personally I think Devotion is the best.

In my mind it mainly comes down to Sacred Weapon vs. Vow of Enmity, and Sacred Weapon is a lot better.

If anyone thinks Vengeance is superior though I wouldn't mind hearing why.

TBH, I hardly ever use sacred weapon. It's an action, and once you get extra attack it gets even less attractive.

Oh, and what about that piddly d4 protection thingy? Might get used once in 150 hour play through.

Don't get me wrong, I like Devotion more too. But I don't think we can argue it's the stronger oath.

I do prefer Vengeance
Sacred weapon is nice if you can manage to have high CHA *and* high STR (that can be obtained with potions and late game items), but there's not much CHA increasing item (one hat in Act3...)
Or maybe with a finesse build using DEX+CHA but then you forfeit the best weapons (and all the 2H ones and GWM)
Overall you're better with high STR and mediocre CHA and this makes Sacred Wepons not useful
OTOH Vengeance has a better array of support spells : Misty Step, Vow of Enmity, Hunter's Mark, and even Haste !

Well Sacred Weapon is a big accuracy boost that stacks with Bless and doesn't require concentration; which is probably the most important thing for a Paladin, since Paladin frontloads all of it's damage. I'd be playing GWM Paladin, though, so I need all the extra to hit I can get. It may be less important if you're playing your Paladin more as support than damage.

Edit: Probably should mention I play on Tactician to, so I think I'm going into every fight with a default -2 to hit by default. Add the -5 from GWM and my chance to hit needs A LOT of help to even become reasonable.

Sacred weapon is good if you prepare turn-based before a fight. Great even.

A bigger selling point for me is Sanctuary. I can save a lot of NPCs and low health allies with that spell.

One thing to note about Devotion is it's a lot easier to break your Devotion oath than your Vengeance oath. I agree that Sacred Weapon is good, particularly for a Palock that's using Pact of the Blade to use CHA for everything to begin with. Although, if you aren't using GWM, then Inquisitor's Might (CHA to damage), might be just as good. Vengeance paladins getting Haste is another perk to consider if you're not multiclassing.
Vengeance is way more metal, and their Oath is way less annoying.

Admit it, you're going to play Vengeance. :steamhappy:

I plan to eventually dual class with fighter to make a Smite Crit Monkey PLD. I think the thing that really puts Devotion over the top for me is the Risky Ring, which IMO is an absolute essential for a crit build. Risky Ring completely invalidates Vow of Enmity and with perma-advantage makes Sacred Weapon just that much better; even with GWM activated you're rarely missing at that point.

I didn't realize Vengeance gets Haste, though, and I do agree the devotion oath will be annoying, but this is gonna be my good boy, doormat run anyways. XD
