Note that you can start separate campaigns just by making differently named characters. So you can be playing one with your partner and have one solo for yourself.
Good Luck and have fun!
-whoever speaks to an npc or in case of triggering cutscene by just walking up to them is closest to them is the one making decisions - others player can choose to view the cutscene and vote on what to say but just to show their opinion, they can't force the speaking one
-for romance, from what I've read, approval is tracked for each player separately, and you can't both romance the same companion
-you're both equal party members, you switch npc party members by walking up to them and telling them to follow you or stay in camp - any player can do that and I think the one telling them to come will be the one to control them in battle (but I think you can change that by grouping them with players)
