Does pickpocket in combat work?

I have 17dex, gloves of power and guidance, but fail every time when trying to pickpocket during combat. I don't see any rolls in combat log either.

Is this known issue?

Not an 'issue' or bug. Working as intended. NPC is fully alert so no, not going to be able to search around in their pockets and bags. Would not be even remotely reasonable.

Azz grabbing in combat usually gets you slapped. I don't think it works but, like you I have never succeeded at it.

You can pick-pocket before the combat, it's actually useful to rid the enemies of healing\invis potions, etc. If you sneak, the cutscenes won't start most of the time (I pick-pocketed Auntie Ethel this way).

You can pickpocket enemies if they're CCed. I just CCed a merchant with Stunning Fist and let Astarion clean him out.

Use heat metal till they drop their weapon and yoink it. Had Ketheric drop his warhammer in phase 1 in the tower. I immediately nabbed it. Funnilly enough, he still 'had' it in the cutscene when he retreated. Time will show if theres a second warhammer to loot when i catch up with him.

On a tangential note, DESTROY the bonehound in moonrise towers instead of just intimidating it. Or it will show up with Ketheric.

I think they could fix this by renaming the action from pickpocket to something like swipe or grab, but of course youd at the very least have disadvantage
