Protection from Good and Evil doesn't do anything.
The spell clearly says it grants protection from Aberrations (ilithids).

That's a blatant lie. It also doesn't protect you from Raphael (demon), he can just snap his fingers and teleport you at will.

Not sure why the devs even bothered putting this spell in the game.

a waste of concentration spell, indeed.

It protects you by giving enemies disadvantage to hit you. If an enemy has a very high to-hit against you, then disadvantage won't stop them from regularly connecting with their attacks.

Says: Protection against Aberrations, Celestials, Elementals, Fey, Fiends, and Undead.

I don't think Demons are in that list.

They check the box.

Protect from good or evil is actually just protection from evil. And the Narrator doesn't see them as evil since they're the heroes in the plot and you are the evil. The case is that since there are no evil tag this spell was specifically created against the only evil being. You

Correct, Demons are no-where on that list. But Fiends are. Raphael is a Fiend.

It's also a weak (level 1) spell, and it exactly specifies what it does:
The targets can't be Charmed, Frightened, or Possessed by them, and when these creatures attack it, they have Disadvantage

Now, show me on this doll where Raphael charmed, frightened, possessed or attacked you during that scene.

Is the elder brain an Aberration?

It doesn’t work like in BG1 & 2 where it made you completely untouchable to those enemies.

WHEN THEY TOOK ALIGNMENT OUT

Opps look the world has less flavour.

Perhaps he doesn't identify with being evil so the spell won't work.

Protection from : Those who's world view may differ from mine, "Which is fine".
Who chosen or non chosen religious beliefs may or may not involve a deity or divine presence but is not restricted to those exclusively. Actually .... you know what ... just make the spell have some pretty lights and go poof. done

It’s a shame they took away the alignment scale and I hope there will be a mod for it down the road.

I can see why WotC took it out, but characters in this game are still clearly operating off it to the smallest detail, for example, Astarion will always gladly support senseless violence and will get upset for not pursuing it, which makes him the slapstick CE character.

Also, spells that depended on and fleshed out the alignment system are gone, I always loved ‘detect evil’ from the older games. It always was goosebump moments when you used detect evil and that child that just asked you to go find their poor lost pet flashed in red.

I think I only used it once in my entire playthrough. This was just when I was going after auntie ethel since putting a mask on will brainwash you without it, and I like walking past the masks in her lair rather than killing them all.

Chaos and lawful only existed. Evil was considered chaotic. Evil a subcategory to chaotic.

The spell protection against good and evil is just pure poison home brewed in the blight village basement.

Yes, so?

If what its doing to you isn't one of those actions specified by the spell, why would the spell do anything?

And higher level spells can often ignore/override or dispel lower level effects, such as how Daylight beats out Darkness.
