Too much junk loot?
I have OCD and my brain tells me every single item in the game is valuable or has some plot significance. So I have to find and loot every box but 90% of the boxes are empty and then 90% of the loot is junk. What's worse is there is like one merchant in the Druid Grove and he runs out of money. Like I just went through some how and the entire place was filled with rotten food. Why?!?! I spend 50% of the game doing inventory management, it's not fun. But I know if I start ignoring loot I will miss something important.

You sure about that?

I doubt you will miss anything important. Even the "good" loot feels the same. 90% of it is lightning charges that you dont use and the other 10% doesnt really do anything amazing. Buy your gear from a merchant and stop caring about the loot.

I don’t pick up anything that’s not a build enabler loot.

No need to pick up junk, it only slows me down and I can just steal whatever money /items I need from vendors so no need for junk.

I always end up with 30k+ gold unused after I buy all the best gear from shops , so it’s pointless to just hoard it. Besides the statue and the house of hope gold becomes useless by the end

Just open everything, like you already do, and don't loot the literal garbage. Problem solved? You won't miss the "good loot" but you also won't be weighed down with rotten food items.

put potions and scrolls in a bag

throw out the bag on the floor

sell everything else

Most of the premium loot is found in locked chests that clearly stand out or on cold, dead bodies (after you arrived).

Vases can be safely ignored, which pretty much already cuts the placed containers in half. Cupboards can be ignored, stuff that lies on most tables can be ignored. Bookshelves sometimes contain magic scrolls. Don’t loot every single piece of food (supplies) it’s unnecessary and watch for highly inefficient supplies like animal parts, where the weight is much higher than what it offers in camp supplies.

I get you. I'm not sure if you're open to installing mods, but this could help a little:
https://www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/2342?tab=description
Configuring this one is no easy task, though.

I recommend looking through some mods, maybe you'll even find smth that suits you better.
Please read the descriptions and "bug" section for any outstanding bugs. Also some people got their saves broken usings mods, so be causious:

I dont know if that helps but i do the same and i dont have a disorder. So, you are actually not alone doing this and a youtuber i watch does the same and loots even all the junk. I at least let the junk be but i still open every single vase in act 3 knowing full well those are always empty.

If you worry about story related items, you can exclude litteraly every vase and all normal crates too. I think thats not too much as a spoiler and it should ease you a little i hope.

The vendors will have all their money back after a long rest though, so that helps. I have a rule of thumb; i take anything that is worth more than 9 gold. so from 10 up to any other, i sell the stuff. This alredy eliminates Loads of 1 gold crap.

I know with a disorder its harder but maybe knowing you for certain wont miss anything if you dont open every normal crate helps a little. I wish for you to be able to enjoy the game despite it, have a nice day :D

BG3 is supposed to be a game that plays like a TTRPG, and in an actual TTRPG the occasional odd trinket can actually come in handy. I think that is a driver of loot hoarding, but in BG3 most stuff that seems like it could matter is just junk. Some of it feels like ideas in development that never happened in release.

There are also 5 vendors in the Druid's Grove at the beginning.
The halfling, Dammon, the potion lady, Mol (but you have to save the kid from the harpies or break into her area first), and Mattis.

There's also 2 in the goblin camp (1 outside, 1 inside).

1 at the tollhouse as long as you don't take Karlach with you to trade at any point.

Anything important will have an orange window around it.

What I do is just send everything to camp when I'm out looting in the world. You can even send camp supplies to the camp and they will be available to pick when you camp for the night. (Sometimes you'll get a notification that says you don't have enough supplies, but it's lying to you because it bugs out sometimes when ALL of your supplies are in the camp chest.)

Then when I need money or come across a vendor, I go to camp and load shift + select everything and add it to wares. Load up all 3 of my companions as well and then leave camp. Insta back at the vendor and then just sell wares, buy anything interesting I want, rinse and repeat until I run out of things or they run out of money.

And I'm never overencumbered or close to it, cause everything goes to camp. Including gold when I have too much.

D&D has never ever been gear based like MMOs are. For most editions if you have two or three magic items you had a lot.

WAIT! Plot items have an orange highlight? Because I have SOOOO much junk here. Like a perfumed letter, I was assuming that it was plot relevant, like I had to give it back to someone? Is that no the case? Also I have not sold any jewellery because some of it seemed to have plot related descriptions, again like I am meant to hand it back to someone.

Gah! Why make all this stuff interactible and not have things in it? If it is an empty vase/plate/spoon/milk jug/fork/knife set it as a background item the player can not interact with.

I was thinking I would get a mod the highlights EVERYTHING when you hold down Left-Alt because at the moment it doesn't highlight enough. Was also hoping for a toggle so I can just leave it on.

Hm. Overrall, yes, much of the loot is lackluster. Much of it is build specific or utility based, which is fine. The pieces which are just bluntly always useful (gloves of dexterity) are not as common.
the frost staff is not strong enough, but it does add interesting potential to frost spells.
If you can stack a few of the lightning charges, you can get some use out of it, though only out of one or two...and its not really worth the bother. If you want to use lightning damage the best thing is to have a warrior chuck a water bottle then cast lightning bolt.
A spellblade item is the circlet of arcane something, which gives you a + to damage whenever you inflict a condition on anything, positive or negative. My bladesinger bard is a fkin monster with that thing.

The lightning water boots have a lot of potential with the electrocution resistance ring. A field of lightning damage sounds fun, especially if theyre wet.

Yes, plot/quest items have an orange highlight. Everything else is vendor fodder.

You are also unable to sell/get rid of orange/plot items as long as they are relevant. Once you have completed a quest, you are able to remove them from inventory (Try sending the artifact to your camp loot. Spoiler, you can't.) They have all the extra stuff so you can sell it to a vendor for cash. A single fork, plate, spoon for 1g is nothing. 20 forks/20 spoons/20 plates is 60g. All loot has a "loot" tag/flavor description, but it's for flavor. They make it interact able so that players can make tons of gold and not have to worry about purchasing things later.

Do you have to loot everything? No, but for those of us that want to, it's an option. But you don't have to carry/burden your characters with it. Everything that is not plot relevant can be "right click/send to camp" to be sold to a vendor later. All food can be rightclick/send to camp so you don't have to be burdened by it either. The only thing that ever weighs me down is my alchemy pouch, and I'm not going to make 20 potions of feather fall, cause Gale can cast that ♥♥♥♥ all day long.

Wait until they hear that to obtain a potion for each character you would have to wait a week of long rest and consideration of the plot you don't have a week.
