Cazadors Staff without Astarion

I have an issue getting Cazador's Staff to rescue the inmates in the Szarr Palace .

I decided to kill Astarion at his first approach to bite me .

This seems to brake the staff issue completely. I already red about the issue with the Daylight effect. I avoid daylight in the Cazador fight at all. unequip Blood of Lathander, and so on.

Cazador carrying his staff at the fight . But there seems to be no option to retrieve it if Astarion is dead.

The duration of the fight seems to be the point. After the third savegame reload I focused Cazador and killed him before he fires his second shout-out. After the fight at opening the coffin a staff-scene appears for my main character even without Astarion.

This shout-out seems to be the trigger point which destroys the staff even if Cazador not ascend.

i literally just broke this scene.

had astarion in my party. did the "act of god death of cazador by casting level five sunlight on him" he went poof into the coffin (sorry marvel, but the blade saga with la magra has nothing on this ascension)

ended up having a free fight of astarion getting revenge on cazador and let him have it.

this was a scum save, because before i realised how to cheese him inside the fight, i got the woe staff as he was still ritual blocked. i am in an evil playthrough; so i turned everyone into batteries for astarion.

he gave me a plus 2 strength potion after all.

the staff was tied to the spell he was casting, which is for vampires. the only one that could possibly continue the spell is Astarion, NOT you, the player, so yeah, it makes perfect sense that if Astarion is not there to recover the staff, it breaks.

OP's is not whinging, They are asking a question b/c they wanted to do a thing and could not. There is no need to be rude.

The game is set up so you only get the staff under very specific circumstances, however, if Astarion is there, he breaks it himself in a cutscene. There should be a similar indicator that it's broken if other choices are made. If that's not the case, it makes sense a player would try to find it.

Having said that, why would you unleash 7 k vampire spawn if you killed Astarion?

you need to go back to school or something. op isn't whining. learn the definition before you post a moronic reply for everyone to see.

Just finished the fight. I didn't kill Astarion. I didn't get any notif saying i picked up the weapon and I couldn't find it. It wasn't until after the scene that I noticed it in my Tav's inventory. Sounds like it could be tied to you killing Astarion. Which makes sense given the story. He didn't break the staff for me either.

Everyone is missing a quest. I threw Astarion out of the camp when he tried to bite me in my sleep. When getting to Baldur's Gate (outskirts, can't remember which) there is a camp of people that (Gurds?) want me to rescue their children. They were taken by vampires and that quest takes me to Cazador. Has nothing to do with Astarion's quest, he's been gone for a long time. If the staff doesn't appear because Astarion isn't there, then it's a mistake. You should be able to rescue the kids, whether Astarion is there or not.

Well all the prisoners surrounding Cazador's Coffin (the ones that summon bats) were alive, including Astarion. I chose to kill Cazador and was prompted with what I want to do with the staff. I chose to let the prisoners go (because when you kill the vampire lord, his brood or whatever you want to call them) are supposed to be freed. Instead they all attacked, and I got a message that all 7000 vampires are turned loose on Baldur's Gate. Makes no sense, I guess I'll kill the ones by the coffin and go out and see what's up. Seems kinda stupid, but we'll see.

Well I didn't kill them all, there were 4 that turned gold/yellow. I talked to them and they're going to go to the Underdark. Have to go check on the kids.

Ok, the children were gone too, went to the Underdark. When leaving I'm confronted by the Gur Leader and she was ok with letting them go. Said they would try to find their kids in the Underdark. Also said thanks and that they would by our allies in the fight to come. Ok, that's fine.

Short answer: No Astarion = No Staff.

If you didn’t recruit Astarion (or killed him) then the whole Cazador Dungeon simply becomes an extra fight. As opposed to remaining part of the relevant storyline.

It’s still fun and gives you XP’s and treasure. But is otherwise irrelevant to the storyline/plot. Without Astarion in the party the Staff loses all relevance and is therefore “broken”.

Of course everyone is entitled to make their own choices in their own game, but, you know, one thing about this “freedom” is also to accept that choices have consequences and assume responsability for the decisions you make (like IRL) 😉

As previously mentioned, this is Astarion’s quest arc, so if you decided to kill him then you have to carry the consequences of your decision and this is how it should be 😊

Wrong.

You can get the staff even if you kill Astarion. You also still have to choose whether to kill or free the vampire spawn WITH THE STAFF ITSELF.
