I'm doing this playthrough in a "IM NOT A MONSTER USING MONSTER POWERS" and the game doesnt give a ♥♥♥♥ ?
So you ARE supposed to use them
I am so disapointed tho
Not using the tadpoles gives you advantage on a DC 15 wisdom check in a dialogue, but that's it.
You won't miss any important content by not partaking in the tadpole buffet (except obviously the powers and some optional aesthetic changes to your character in the future).
You can refuse the half-illithid transformation by succeeding the above mentioned wisdom check, I am sure some race/class combinations also have some special ways of refusing it too, so it's optional.
technically, you do start and continue playing the game with at least 1 tadpole in your brain already - so as far as how the illithid transformation works, the process has begun and you are already a monster (in the making).
So your RP is more in the direction of "I DON'T WANT TO BE A MONSTER BUT I AM ALREADY CHANGING INTO ONE SO I AM GOING TO DO MORE GOOD THAN BAD BEFORE THE TRANSFORMATION IS COMPLETE"
