NPC quests in 4 player co-op
I've gone through to act 2 in single player and I want to do a campaign with some friends. Is there any potential problems regarding how NPC quests work in a full party of players?

There was before as you could not “dismiss” player characters so any quest you needed a character to actually start it while in your party(some npcs simply won’t talk to you if they’re not there) we’re soft locked by having 4 player coop game going.

But with new wither’s feature, can stash a player character and can take companions out as needed to at least start the quests now. Dunno need do this while one player is off line tho, we just downloaded the party limit begone mod as withers feature didn’t exist yet.

You should be able to do all of their quests without them present, and you can talk to them about the results back at camp. Some may care more about being left out of their own quest than others.

For what it's worth, the developers themselves have recommended not really worrying about companions if you're playing with a full custom party the whole time, as a lot of their charm and writing comes through by having them around during quests/dialogue and not just hanging out in camp. They recommend solo/2-player-co-op if you want to engage fully with the companion characters.

I mean…I guess yeah, kinda cop out when selling game as 4 player and then why add the wardrobe to fix this if it wasn’t an oversight?

Answer to op is no, it’s not an issue anymore but find it kinda amusing devs took that stance, and then fixed it regardless xD

I wouldn't say creating the wardrobe is fixing any oversight other than having something to do with your friend's character when the rest of the group wants to keep adventuring with a full party. That, and if your friend doesn't want to play anymore or if a rando joins your game and leaves their character behind.

The wardrobe isn't really a solution for 4-players who want to play together all at the same time for the whole game and have the full companion NPC experience, that's where the mods to increase party size come in as you said.

If it's just the quests themselves though, those should all still be doable whether you have the NPC in the party or not.

Ah, I just realized I assumed the OP meant companion quests specifically, but they said "NPC" quests.

Assuming you mean quests you get from NPCs in general, the main things to keep in mind is that when a quest moves forward for one person, it moves forward for all players.

If your group is playing with a more chaotic style and keeping to yourselves, you can quickly lose track of who has talked to which NPC, what information has already been shared, who is hostile, etc. so depending on how you play communication is important.
