Oath of the Ancients dialogue option -> OATHBREAKER!!!
Does anyone know how I triggered Oathbreaker after the battle with Karliss and conversation with the Pixie?. The battle was initiated by the enemy after I bypassed the convoy interaction, and upon interacting with the Fey, I chose the Oath of the Ancients dialogue option, which declines a reward for freeing her. Oathbreaker triggered immediately and I hadn't saved after the battle, setting me back to the start of Act II.

I can usually tell what course of action will lead to that demon showing up, been surprised once or twice (namely following unexpected hostilities in the owlbear lead-in in Act I), but this time... I mean, I literally took the dialogue path marked with my oath.

As an aside, I prefer the classic D&D alignment system featured in NWN where presumably I'd be so deep in my alignment that whatever presumably minor transgression I committed wouldn't be enough to lock me out of my class. That was such a memorable part of D&D (not that I ever played tabletop) from my childhood, this feels like a good example of why the all-or-nothing approach is ♥♥♥♥♥♥.

I found that funny too, there are a couple of places where using the Paladin speech option will break your vow. In act 1 the oaths are fairly consistent with how they're applied. It's a crap shoot in acts 2 and 3.

That's odd, I've used the same dialogue with Oath of the Ancients and it didn't oathbreak. Sounds like a bug to me.

You must have done or said something else within the same conversation. At least I remember also triggering the Oathbreaker even though I also chose to release the pixie. I had to reload my save and try it again as well.

It may also just be bugged.

Oh this is ridiculous. Based on the transcript, turning the bottom of the lantern may have been considered torture. Of course, neither me nor my character would have any way of knowing that was the case. I am absolutely floored by about 90% of the design decisions and implementation in this game... but this oathbreak and Act II restart has me irked. If it's going to be all-or-nothing, what we in the business world would call the "actual Knowledge" of the PC must be a consideration. I wish I'd saved rather than ragequit as 1,000 gold to get back on track with no lasting consequences is like, nothing.

Then you didn't pay attention or skipped dialogue. From what i remember the pixie tells you TO NOT turn the bottom because it's hurting her. Didn't know it would break the oath tho. I played a paladin, did the same as you but was fine in the end. Don't remember which one i played, think it was devotion
