Like, i'm still only an hour in, have not yet gotten my whole party, but like, i've got one snotty thief who's threatening to slit my throat no matter what dialogue option i choose, and a gith that says 'You there, get me out of the cage!'

There's quite a big line between workshipping the protagonist and meeting self centered knife ear ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ number 4. Ironically Halsin is the only good willed individuals that won't throw a fit like Wyll does on occasion.

I always kill Lae'zel and Astarion, ignore Gale and Wyll, and recruit Shadowcute and maybe Karlach. I intend to recruit Minthara later after a prison break and free her from the Absolute's influence. Not sure about Jaheira yet.
