Not really a fan of the directionless questing.
Basically just a laundry list of quests, mostly giving you extremely vague notions of what you have to do and when you can actually resolve them.

This is one of those games where you're best off just alt tabbing into a search engine every 5 seconds. It's better than spending 20 minutes trying to find the hidden meaning of some vague quest instruction, just to find out nothing actually happens until the next act. Or it's better than leaving some uselessly vague quest unresolved, just to have it fail when you progress the story.

I completely ignored the quest log first playthrough (and rarely looked at the mini/map)and i would say i am glad, whether i finished a quest or not would be purely based on whether i stumbled upon it naturally or i had some understanding of where to go from the actual dialogue itself. otherwise it wouldn't get finished although doing this in baldur's gate city was a mess due to how every inch of the map had quests that did laps around the city so i was just gathering tons of quests, but it was fantastic.

in conclusion... it's only an issue if you make it one i guess.

I mean, even just throwing a little <to be continued> in the quest journal next to every quest that can no longer be progressed until later would be nice. Then I at least know which vague, non-instructions in my journal I can ignore for the time being.

Best part is nearly all the quest chains have bugs. On top of that some quest items are a different colour in your inventory, others are not. It's such terrible design.

I'm not really sure what to tell ya, bud. The game is pretty good for where you gotta go for most of the quests. Some of the side ones do make you actually read to understand what's going on, but if you want RPGs that hold your hand you could always play WoW or FFXIV. Most of their quests will tell you to go to X. Kill/collect Y. etc etc etc

I played Legacy of Kain, "vague" BG3 quests are nothing. I've played DnD with DM's who tell you waaaay less than BG3 does.

If you're alt tabbing every 5 seconds to look up solutions, just close the game and go watch it on youtube.

Because seriously, are you actually complaining that the game makes you play the game instead of spoon feeding you the game?

Saying it's handholding is dumb. Most of you just miss this side content and walk away from the game never knowing it existed. Creating content that's so pointlessly vague it is only ever seen by people who google as they play is dumb.

So yes, add quest indicators to the map and add descriptions with actual information you can use to the journal.

I didn't say handholding, I said spoon-feeding.

How is it people "Miss" so much content? Do you not explore areas? Finding things is literally playing the game.

This isn't Simon's quest, nothing here is all that hard to find if you bother to look. Hell, half the time all you've got to do is look at the map. "Gee, there is all that blacked out area over there...." and, you know, GO over there.

Although, to be perfectly fair, I don't actually believe anyone, even the OP, is struggling all that hard.

You sound like someone who prefers Ubisoft games.

Sure I explore areas, find things. The things I find are 100's upon 100's of pieces of garbage loot, and as I move journal entries with non-specific instructions and no quest markers pile up.

Is one of the 500 different pieces of garbage loot I'm holding needed for any of the non-specific crap in my quest list? My journal certainly doesn't say anything about what I need, where to go or if the quests can even be progressed in this act. Where are any of the random people I'm expected to find/save? Zevlor? No quest marker. Mizora? No quest marker. Mol? No quest marker. Are they in this act or the next? Will their quests randomly fail if I make any story progress? Who knows.

It's dumb.

It sounds like you are hoarding a bunch of useless stuff that is essentially obfuscating the more useful things in your inventory. As for the quest markers for those specific quests, they are hidden for good reason. Those are really the only true ambiguous quests in that act. The rest can be done by reading or asking around/talking to NPCs.

I never felt directionless. I had the opposite. Too much direction that I got overwhelmed by the sidequests, especially in Act 3. The game is pretty good at giving quest markers on where to go.

I will say I was annoyed that some quests could only progress/complete by continuing the main plot quest. Even a simple "There's nothing we can do now" is fine. Just letting it hang while I'm crawling over all the available maps only to realize I just can't do the quest yet was very annoying.
