Basically, once you enter the pool you are starting the end of the act. Once you complete it all Moonrise Tower will turn aggressive and you need to go to attack it together with your allies. Probably it will be too late to try to rescue the tieflings and relevant related quests.
If you do the objectives after entering the pool, the moonrise tower becomes essentially a red zone and denizens aggro you (either if you kill the nightsong or you rescue her depending on your play through choices).
The effects some other Act 2 quests and hence why doing any side stuff before you go there is recommended.
