In that case you want to position the bulk of your party at the door to one of the two narrow balconies either side of the building. have one char (ideally one with some mobility) initiate cutscene to the point where you can escelate (or simply shoot at gortash off the bat if you're so inclined) and have them leg the ♥♥♥♥ over to the balcony.
In my specific case, my party was all about fighting within magical darkness so having that down broke the AI too. Making them behave really strangely and trickle through the door one by one slowly. If you at all can use some aoe like that to CC a little, that's probably a good thing to keep in mind on top of it all.
Thanks. Actually I’d like to kill everyone just not altogether. Might use the path you suggested then go back for the rest.
Sounds cool. Which AOE spells would you suggest? I got only Gale as a caster. My cleric is multiclassed to fighter so not of much use.
Must admit my knowledge of proper casters is a bit lacking in this. But basically anything that forces the AI to path around and/or not through it, so you can somewhat funnel them.
I'd say any "wall" type spell is probably ideal for funneling them and "portioning" them at the door.
Darkness is nice imo as it makes them path around it/not enter it usually and can't be shot through or into. That somehow breaks a lot of the enemy AI in the game, but especially in this fight. On the downside... if your party is not built around fighting inside darkness, it also means you are blinded within and can't shoot out of it.
Fog cloud probably works just as well. Never quite understood what the difference between the two is mechanically.
Stuff like acid and burnt floor only works half the time, plus they can shoot over/through it. Inverse pro and con of darkness there: enemies can see through it, but you can too. On the upside: if enemies ignore it and just path through it anyway, they take a smidge of (negligible) damage.
And then once you got the enemies all funneled in a neat conga line on the actual balcony, stuff like fireball, sunbeam or the like are very satisfying to fire into them.
Then did the doors to the right and the left separately. Opened door with Astarion. Hit whoever I could reach. Joined the party at the bridge. AOE with Gale at the doors. They did get kinda stuck thankfully.
Now I’m at Gortash and it seems exteeeemely hard. Too many robots. Think I counted 7. Will try the balcony.
Also… sticking the party on the edge of the bridge, on the Wyrms Crossing side allowed me to teleport out n go to camp or sell.
Onwards!
