omeluum question
Act 1 spoilers.
I did the omeluum quest and brought him the items for the potion, drank it, did the saving throws and all that. At the end the narrator says that the tadpole grows with power. and when speaking with omeluum I turned down his ring, choosing to "keep this new power" instead. But I don't seem to have any new buff or ability. Does anyone know if this is a bug or if the "power" is just a story thing?
I did already buff my tadpole at the Githyanki creche if that has anything to do with it

If I remember correctly, you get an illithid power to be casted as a bonus action, the one similar to "Death Ward" (you heal a target, and prevent it from dying once)

It doesn't do anything, unfortunately. Neither does the ring, lol.

Yeah, for me it went to the back of the 1st action bar segment, so took me until I started to re-arrange all my action bars to even notice I had the ability.

More like forgetting to use the ability, you get far too many powers over the course of the game.

If you never use the parasite (i.e. never consume the tadpoles) then you won't even see the illithid abilities menu and so of course this power will do nothing. The ring also does nothing - in EA there was a plot around it it seems but then they dropped it.

Yes, completing the quest and passing all the checks converts YOUR illithid powers (only yours) to being bonus actions instead of primary actions. Very powerful, very worth doing. Those saying that illithid powers are useless simply do not know how to use them. Black Hole especially is extremely powerful; changes entire combats. Facing a dozen spread out enemies? a single black hole can concentrate them into an area small enough to hit them all with a single fireball or call lighting, AND it slows them besides, a powerful thing in and of itself. AND you get to keep on casting it as a bonus action every round for 3 rounds after. That's just ONE power. mindblast? a bonus action to stun an entire group of enemies? sure thing boss. really, the illithid powers send even the hardest combats straight into easy mode when you can cast them as bonus actions. doing this quest is probably the single biggest power boost in the entire game.

the ring was changed from EA so that it no longer inhibits your powers, it just makes you immune to charm. not very useful for most of the game, and there are far better rings out there. so don't do this for the ring... definitely do it for changing your mind powers to bonus actions.

ah yup I see it now! I couldn't see the ability because it didn't fit on my abilities page. Appreciate it

If you drink the potion, does it lock you into the Mind Flayer path? I haven’t used any in my play through nor did I use the astral touched one. I’m trying to avoid turning into one or half of one. There seems to be some disagreement online that it locks you into those paths or not. Not sure if this is an early access result or current outcome. Thanks!

potion? are you referring to the tadpole? or something else? I havent played in awhile

The potion from Omeluum gives you "survival instincts" illithid power. Functions like death ward.

All the potion does is to let omeluun examine your tadpole. Which causes it to develop an unique power when Omeluun mindtouches it.
